Only able to fit 3 gallons of gas...

So I've got a little bit of a weird problem. I can only fit 3 gallons of gas into my fuel tank... I honestly have to say that I don't even know where to start with this, so if you guys have any ideas, post em up!

It's on an 87 5.0.. Lemme know if you need more info

Ha, yea, the gas gauge is indeed broke. But, I don't think that the car would only take 3 gallons of gas solely based on the gas gauge. I've run the car to empty 2 or 3 times now, and the most I can ever fit in the tank is 3 gallons... Oh well, guess I'm just gonna have to rip things apart and see what i can find.

    Crazy....

Drop the tank, remove the fuel pump retainer and have a look in the tank.

I never had this happen to a fox, but our Ford van was doing the same thing,
the vent tube that runs alongside the filler neck was clogged.

Also there was a pressure checkvalve in the filler neck where it meets the tank.

Good thinking!! Could be a stuck vent valve on the top of the tank too. Blow the line out 1st.

Hows a fuel filter stop it from taking fuel into the tank?
