My friend just bought a 93 lx 4 cyl. with an automatic transmission. He wants to know what all he would need to convert it to a 5.0 302. Any advice is appreciated.

Unbolt anything that's 2.3 and A4LD and bolt in all the new parts :D
In most cases, you are miles (and $$$'s) ahead to just find a V8 car to start. Especially if you don't have the donor car or have to ask how it's done. Just my measly .02.
This is especailly true as you move to the newer (as in 93) cars with air bags and so much tied into the same wiring harness. The later 2.3 cars rerally added alot with dual plugs and DIS. Effectively you end up swapping the engine, trans, wiring harness, then need to swap rears and brakes. All you keep is the chassis.

What would you estimate the cost at for a complete swap?

it would be so much easier to find a wrecked donor 5liter. since the car is a 93,he will have to stay with 91-93 wiring harness.
motor
tranny
fuel lines
crossmember
rearend (can run the 7.5 but 8.8 will hold up much better on v8's)
driveshaft
computer
wiring
exaust
fuel pump
spindals (4cyl front suspension works but 8cyl stuff holds better imo)
springs (same as above stated)
so much easier to find on thats wrecked so he's not puttin a car together off parts from here-there cars...
