how much it takes to total a bike...

Some giant bag of douche knocked by bike over in the parking lot at school. camera's are all over the place so they'll catch them. I'm still pissed and not going to be okay about it until it's fixed. Damage is as follows:

    Broken footpeg
    Dented/scractched crank case
    headlight assembly cracks/scratches
    headlight lense scratches
    tail section cracks/scratches
    upper fairing scratches/crack
    lower fairing scratches/cracks
clutch lever is bent to hell
bar end broke and is gone
    mirror scratched terribly
    gas tank dent/scrach/paint chip
and the swing arm has a good amount of rash

Is that going to be enough to total it? I'm not sure how much damage it takes to total a bike.

I hit a dear with my sportster when it was new....it smashed the tank rear fender exhaust bent the handle bars broke the speedo both clutch and brake handle all the turn signals foot pegs etc etc. It didn't damage anything important but smashed everything off of it and they didn't total it. I got all new barley pre painted parts and everything to fix it

Was this bike new? Sportbike? Plastics are very expensive on those bikes. Sounds like alot of damage from what is described as a tip over. Did he knock it over with a car then push it?

    I think you'll be OK....

If i remember right, your bike is a brand new R6.... The threshold to total a bike is no different than the one to total a car.... I think you've got between 3 and 4 grand of damage, because like luxurysportscar said, plastics are expensive.... but, that won't be enough to total a brand new '09 bike...

yeh it was the R6. And it was vandalism, the kid rolled it back then SLAMMED it. The swing arm is damaged (just rash) but it doesn't look like it'll buff out. Not sure about anything deeper than what i can see because i'm not touching it unless an insurance agent is there or it's at a shop for a quote.

Is this going to make my insurance rate go up because it was vandalism and therefore not my fault?

well good new, the idiot was caught on camera pulling into the spot i was parked in and knocking it over, getting out to look at it, then parking in the other end of the lot. HE DIDN'T EVEN PICK IT UP! Someone i know saw it later that night and picked it up. Do you guys think i should try and get him to pay out of pocket b/c it's a hit and run and that's kind of a big deal?

Should i ask for more than it's worth to fix? like 150%...for not turning it in?

Turn it in to your insurance and tell them about the supporting evidence. Let them handle the situation, get your bike fixed and get on with your life. Be happy if you get your bike fixed right in the end.
