I am 90% certain this was my buddy Steve's car, let me check with him to verify and get back to you on it. If it was his, it was a high 11 second combo that he put back to stock to sell. I'm sure we can get the skinny on this car either way as I know several 2.3 guys in that region.

That Merkur is overpriced even if it was a Cosworth. You know you guys can get the real deal up there ;)

Troys car is a great deal too (if you want to buy a SVO)

On Edit: Sent Steve a message, but now that I look at the mods on that car I'm not as sure it was his. He didn;t have the BPV on his when he sold it or the Ford foglight covers (although the new owner could have added them).

FWIW, here is a video of his car in it's prime. Steve and I used to drive each other pushing our stuff to the next level. We was typically neck and neck with our ET's although he beat me to the 11's ...

Hmm... that would be wild if it was from someone you know or could get more information (the SVO community is quite small). It would increase my interest to go that route anyway as 99-04 GT's up here are overpriced IMO.

Yeah, the merkur owner is definately smoking something courtesy of the more liberal laws in Ontario :) And as I've found, there are a few trim levels of various cars and bikes that arent available in the States but you can buy here.

Anyway, if you find anything out Id be curious.

Not only that, but technically the Euro / Brit spec Sierra Cosworth can (and was) imported up there. Technically, it is a different car than the XR4TI as it has no extra pillar, and came with an EXCEPTIONAL DOHC 2.0 liter turbo engine. All of the Merkur guys have a wanna be syndrome around those cars. My buddy Tommy owns the real deal and it's as sexy as a car gets IMO.

Some different rims would really wake that car up.

That car was not my buddies... the repaint in the ad should have clued me in He did point me to who's he though it was, doing a little searching on that now.

The SVO world is small but there are factions. The one's that are on SVOCA and the one's that have been banned from SVOCA :D

The Canadian spec is worth something in the end value. Not that the SVO's are ever going to be worth anything IMO, but it makes them the rare of the rare as the export numbers where low. BTW, the SVO "should" be worth something, but the low production, RARE specific parts, and DEEP seperation amounst it's enthusiest will always hold it back. I would recomend a buy based on wanting one, then having that cured by owning one.

Let me dig on the "new" lead.

That is friggin BAD A$$!!! Is it for sale? :)

EDIT - SVOCA I wasn't on. I mostly hung out on turboford a few years ago when I was looking at project options for a turbo car with RWD

Oh and BTW (to threadjack my own thread). I take it you're aware of the DOHC mod using the volvo head on the 2.3 block? It seems to really open it up for cheap.

In my mind, it is the pinacal of bad ass ... 500 hp 2.0 liter DOHC that handles like a slot car with an amazing racing pedigree and cosworth mistique. Most wont "get it" but the car is really a legend of Ford in Europe.

As you know, everything is for sale. That car has an "issue" however. It was a grey market import and would be real tough to tranfer owners, let alone move back out of the country (but it did come in from Canada).

Cheap is yet to be proven ;) BTW, the name we have "assigned" to the swap is Folvo

Another buddy Andrew worked out a way to do the mod without welding a block on the head. Welding the block isnt a cost issue, but adds machining and sealing issues. Andrews method is to machine the block for frost plugs for the un needed hoses and add new ones. several done this way are running and living well at 300 HP.

The timing drive set-up is mostly a cluster fvck of cobbled parts (on an interference motor) .. a few guys have stepped up and are making parts, but they are still not durabilty proven.

In the end, the best HP we have seen from a Folvo is in the 500 whp range. You can get that with ported iron. Most guys that have done it do it for the "cool" factor, and lots of Merkur guys do it to look like the 2.0 cossie :D

Miek is working on the SOHC Volve version as a side project, it is likely the better swap IMO as it starts life as a turbo head, there are multiple turbo cams available, and it'sa simpler setup (but doesent have the DOHC bling)

Yep, quite familiar with Folvos and given your interest in the 2.3t I should have just assumed you knew about it. :)

I also saw the frost plug method. I guess he developed it around- um- 3 years ago? I think thats when I remember seeing it first.

Although the bling factor is nice, I was thinking more for helping flow. However, if there are alternatives that can get the flow/power and are more proven then that would supercede bling to some degree. Does the SOHC turbo head fit the same way as the DOHC head (i.e. freeze plugs and other mods)?

As for the cosworth, Im familiar with the car. I remember reading about it in the late 80's/early 90's and wishing I could get one. Its a shame the car was grey marketed into the US instead of staying up here. However, since it would have a Canadian VIN, it wouldn't be so much "importing" it as getting a title in my province using the bill of sale for proof of ownership.

Any news on the car in the OP? I'm really leaning toward a 99-04 but this car seems to have some potential as a project car.
