Warm weather would be nice so maybe I can get other things done. Need to decide on what I want for new valve springs. Order new valve seals, Ford GT rockers and new cam gears. I like Comps revised setup over the Comp ones I use now. Pulled it all apart when changing rod bolts to ARP2000's, found one rod bearing had a score on outer edge from #5 cyl. Pulled crank, journal was fine and did not find anything that would cause the issue. No burrs or nicks on journal. So new rod bearings and back together. Pulled 5 again after turning a few times and all good.

Tried my hand with new TIG and umm more practice is ordered

Anyways I found some thinner wall brass tubing for oil drain backs. Drilled windage tray to clear drain back tubes.

Prior tube I tried on left, new ones on right. Added 1/2" to overall length. Which places them 1 1/4" below block.

We need to talk about the 4.6 stuff sometime. I'm shopping a new platform and a DOHC 4.6 is on my radar (with a turbo of course).

Trying to decide to use the 7.5" ATI 8rib balancer since I have it or order a smaller 6.8" 6 rib one. 8 rib was going to be for the supercharger.

Tear down of car begins Saturday. Otherwise if I don't this will never get done because I want to go racing lol

Got a billet steel crank timing gear, Trickflow "PAC Racing" beehive springs 125lb seat and 275lb open shimmed .030" and Ford GT cam followers today. Beefy little followers that should help keep more oil to cam journals.

Nice. Where did you buy the followers? I hadn't planned on upgrading mine, but when the time comes and I already have it apart who knows.

Mod motors use Beehive springs normally. I wanted something with a little more seat pressure than what I have currently. Just hoping to be able to reuse my titanium retainers. Not wanting to buy those again if I don't have to.

I got them from Summit only because I had a bunch of speed points that offset the cost of them. I have seen them cheaper at MMR, around $190 for 16 of them.

It's been so long since I had to remove headers from this car. I forgot how much I hate doing it. Even worse I used Percy locking header bolts. So getting that fn allen key on some sucked. I am going to have to tear into the engine harness and remove wiring I don't need or want. It's progress, so I'm happy.

Cat back off car and along with mid pipe was a solid 62lbs off car. Also weighed new cam followers. Stockers were 93.8g and GT followers are 89.9g

Well original shortblock has some issues. I got heads off so I can go through them. Had noticed passenger side header #1 tube was touching frame rail. Once header and head was off found frame rail was rusted thru where tube was touching. Metal was warped in shape of tube where it was touching. Guessing heat caused me some work. Minor but not what I wanted to have to fix.

Block is not looking good. #1 cylinder I saw some nasty vertical scoring around bore. #6 looked the same. Others appeared ok but any cross hatch to bore is long gone. I think I wore this poor thing out over 12 years of racing
Found oil pump was missing one bolt. Should be 4 holding in place. Have no idea where that bolt is but it was missing where two hold pump to create seal for outlet of pump. See what I find once it's out and oil pan is off.

Messed with heads this weekend. What a friggn mess they were. Intake valves were caked with burnt oil on top. They cleaned up real nice. So pretty sure the seals were junk. Had a blue viton seal on intake, no idea from who really. Exhaust had a Ford pos black seal on it. Intake runners had some minor oil deposits but not as bad since I used a separator on pcv line. Exhaust runners I had to scrape. Combustion chamber was not so bad surprisingly. Leaky seals and worn out cylinder bores(badly) make for fun times.

I wasn't able to reuse the titanium retainers. I ended up with springs at a 1.70" install and they needed to be at 1.60" So ended up using chromoly retainers. Keepers sat in different spot on both. Not even sure who made the titanium ones. Guy that ported heads years ago put them on along with larger valves after taking too long to get heads to me. He is dead so can't ask him. Titanium ones were 5.8g and chromoly were 9.7g

Clean head, Felpro Viton seals, new springs.

    Every single intake valve

    Cleaned up

    Something getting done

    Gah made a mess

Thing I wasted more time on yesterday. Valve stem seals. Spring kit came with seals and they were too short. Trying to locate right ones sucked. No one lists any specs. Found a parts store that actually had the Felpro set and were willing to open the package so I could look at them.

Far left, seal that came with springs. Way too short.
2nd one, Ford seal that was on exhaust
3rd one, Blue Viton that was on intake. Can also see valve spring rubbed, other side of seals was worn into the metal body. Spring seemed tight on them. New springs fit much better.
    4th one, Felpro Red Viton P/N SS72891

Good info. What difference does it make having the valve stem seal shorter? Is there a difference in diameter of the shaft of the valve that would cause it to leak?

The short ones once seated on guide didn't touch head. If I had put springs on. They would have ripped the seals.

That's interesting. On my junk we need to shorten the tops of the guides for lift clearance so we run a shorter seal, but ours don't have that spring pad like yours does. I have a great beehive that wil lset up 140 on the seat / 300 open at a 1.700 installed height, but they might be too large in diameter looking at you pockets

Lol, that's like the diameter at the retainer. Mine are 1.41 at the base, lol. Yeah that's tight
