    Tko 500

I would like to hear any 1st hand experience with a TKO 500 if anyone is using one. Mainly interested to hear how well they REALLY shift, especially at higher RPM (6800 ish).

This hasnt been a real good option for me until recently. Quick time now has a SFI bell for the 2.3 that comes with the T5 and TKO patterns. I am ordering it and will start with the T5's but am seriously looking at the TKO as a next step. I can get it with a 10 spline input (needed for my clutches) and it has a 3.30 ish 1st gear. I can swap back to a 4.10 rear (or even 4.30) and live with this I think.

I've not paid a lot of attention, but seem to remeber talk of some of these not shifiting well. I would rather blow up T5's than not be able ot power shift a new tranny.

    Bob,

talk to J. He had to have his tko600 slightly modified to shift a high rpm. I believe it is modifications to the shift forks. The other recent mod is carbon fiber lined blocker rings by Hanlon.

    Thanks Mark,

I also need to talk to Liberty, they sell a modified version of the 500 where they modify it with bronze shift fork pads, and internal shift rail upgrade, and what they call ..."Surface Enhancement Processed Hubs & Sliders"

    http://www.libertysgears.com/ttc.htm

    They later say ...

All upgraded synchronized transmissions are sold with modified shift cones for increased drag coefficient between gear cone and synchronizer for quicker shifts. Liberty's also processes synchronizer teeth for increased longevity.

I suspect they are either trying to emulate, or straight out copy, Hanlons blockers without saying it.

This is still a way out for me, but I'm looking into it (and counting change ot pay for it). The best case would be a face plated tranny but I really do street drive this a lot.

Now that Quicktime is making the SFI bell for us, the T5 version has both patterns plus a centering ring for the T5 (built as a TKO bell actually). My issue with most available transmissions is not enough 1st gear. The TKO 500 has a low enough 1st that I can add rear gear and get away with it.
