There are little release buttons under the front of the seat, right about dead center between your legs if you were sitting in the back seat. Push in to release.

yes they can be a pain if frozen. my passenger side was frozen and i had to yank it up and break the clip to get mine out..... new retainers are fairly priced if you break them...
