    Capri Winter Upgrades

It's that time of year again ;) ... Parts are starting to come in for my winter upgrades :D I dont have everything worked out yet, but a header change, an intercooler upgrade (along with all new piping), and a wholesale change to the bell housing set up (different clutch actuation and SFI) are in the plans.

The first big part came today ... The basis for my new header. I am so done with this stainless tube header grief, so I've gone with a schedule 40 steel weld ell header this time (yeah, it's as heavy as it looks) ...

Hopefully this will end my cracking issues

Not that significant on their own, but these are the materials to add my 46 mm external wastegate to the log header. Details need mocked up, but the plan is to bring the gate straight out the front this time and run the dump tube down past the rack ...

Also picked this up from a buddy ... My current intake is about 120 degrees rotates to work well with the NPR intercooler. It's worked well, but the pipes are on funky angles and hit my hood under full boost. This intake is just 90 degrees rotated so everything will point straight forward (and saves me the trouble of making up another one) ...

Roughly what is planned to work in my external gate ... It's going to take some carefull measuring, profiling, and a pile of test fits to snake it past the motor mount but it should go :D

Also it looks like I can get a -10 drain line in without a lot of issue ... Should be pretty normal fittings and have a nice clearance to everything ...

LOL, mine will be ongoing, but it's a priority to get that F'ning tube header off my car as fast as possible ... trying to decide if running it over with a dozer or blowing it up are better end to it.

A goal for this winter is to get the "running" part of the upgrades done early so I can trailer the car to a dyno a couple of times. I need to spend some time working out a timing curve for the Microsquirt. What I have now is okay, but clearly can be optimized.

I likely have it if you need it for the engine ... Have enough "cast off" parts to put together nice high 12 second combo if you want ;)

Pulled everything I need off the car today, got the turbo on to the mock up ...

Grabbed the motor mount off that side too so I can work through the clearance for the wastegate dump ...

Now to break out some cutting, grinding, and welding tools :D

Here is the driver for the upgrades here ...

Stainless steel header (looks innocent enough, but notice just about every weld is re-welded at least once) ...

Weld in the collector area ....

Ripped open like a fat kid on a pack of Oreo's ...

    Cracks in the cracks ...

If anyone has access to explosives, send me a PM ;)

    LMAO

Your old header looks like there was no real support which I think leads to issues with stainless. Your new header looks nice.

Actually Ed, it's just the opposite. SS moves a freaking ton at temperature, figure this thing goes from 1600 degrees to a few hundred each pass. It had braces on it and those are likely the start of the issues. It actually got better after the bracing was removed, but either way it's going ot crack as much as it moves.
