    Anyone installed a remote starter?

I'm looking to buy my fiance a remote starter for Christmas for our Grand Cherokee.... I'm wondering if anyone has installed one themselves, and if its worth trying to do myself?? I really don't wanna pay someone $150 to install it, but if its a royal PITA, it might be worth it...

    Any insight?

One of my friends installs them as a side business....I've watched him install one that integrated the windows going down, the door locks, etc...did NOT look like any fun. I think it depends what kind of vehicle your putting it in, but in general not something I would want to do myself.

Yes...def go to a reputable shop. By shop I mean a car audio shop not BestBuy. My buddy owns CarTunes in Morgantown and Ive heard all the horror stories. I believe Jeep is the most complicated to install one in. I do wiring everyday and do countless stereos but I didnt even install my remote start lol

Why is this not a option on new vehicles is beyond me. They can diagnose and unlock your car from outer-****ing-space, but they don't sell a factory remote starter....

Good point, maybe liability? Not sure. Alot of vehicles are starting to come with electric heat now, that may be the future?

It is an option on a lot of new vehicles. My 08 f150 came with a factory remote start but the starter was still a seperate fob. with the new ones it is intagrated into one fob.

I thought of that a few years ago. Have an addition heater setup for defrost etc., something like how a toaster heats up. Instant.

The only way mine shuts off is if I hit the brake pedal when getting in

Its not the first ford remote start I have had and none have shut off when the door is opened. The key under the dash is all good and well until it shakes loose. My parents learned that on there explorer. It got to be such a pain in the ass they had it removed.
