What's you initial thoughts on the vacuum pump Mike? What kind of vacuum do you see? Are you running any type of break valve to limit that?

My initial thougt was, man that things is noisy lol. I do have the relief valve because I dont want to run more then 10 because of the fear of oiling issues. Right now its not pulling any at idle and about 10 at 3000 rpm but these numbers will change as the rings seal and the vacuum pump breaks in. I have not taken it any higher the 3000 rpms yet. Ill let you know once I drive it a bit.
No experience with vacuum pumps but do they effect anything on a fresh engine?
Should you have it on during break-in?
Looks good, glad to hear its ready before race season.

Some guys say not to run it on a fresh engine others say it helps with the break in process. I did alot of research and found no real strong evidence either way. All a vacuum pump does is pulls excess gas from the crank case and promotes ring seal so I couldnt see any reason not to run it. Thats another reason why im limiting the amount of vacuum its pulling.
Well Tim and I tuned it on the dyno today. I dont think the rings are fully seated yet but who knows. Peak horse power was 417. I have the relief valve on the vacuum pump at 10Hg so there may be some added HP by adding vacuum but I would rather be safe. It seemed to do much better through the whole rpm range, even in the lower rpms it made atleast 5 more hp where I thought I would have lost HP. In the higher rpms I saw as much as 20 more hp but only about 12-15 more peak hp. Over all Im happy with the engine Tim and I built, lets just hope it holds up to the abuse of 150 1/4 mile passes a year for about 3-4 years before I take it back apart.
Very Nice Mike.
Anything other than the block change?

Agree, I just have heard so many horror stories about blown engines from too much vacuum or ones that are setup incorrectly. Since the engine is new Im being safe but it would only take a second to make it pull more vacuum when Im ready. Once I feel comfortable I just may turn it up :D
Well I made some runs on the new engine today to start breaking it in. First pass was good 10.82 @ 123 then 10.79 @ 123 and two 10.78 passes at 123mph. This was with the heavy break in oil and short shifting it by a few hundred rpm. I didnt really play with the tune either. There are probably a few more ponies in it. Im happy with the results since i added hundred pounds from the dart block. I have a few more ideas that may get me more ET. I wanted to thank Tim for all his help.
Good job glad to see things are working out for you

Yeah I went to Mason dixon. I like the track. Its a little bumpy though.
I forgot to there maybe a little more power in the vacuum pump too.
Wow Mike I think the new bullet is a keeper.

thanks guys. Now if I can think of some ways to put this pig on a diet with out getting rid of to many luxuries :D
Congrats must be nice to be at the track already. Sounds like a good first outing.
I'd like to see you take that wing off at the track for some same day back-to-back testing.

Funny you said that, Tim and I thought about taking it off yesterday. I think it will come off for the next day at the track. I have heard they are worth close to a tenth. I thought about taking the exhaust off but I refuse not to run it through the mufflers. It would like a little more gear to I think.
