I hear ya Bob, I was thinking of more function over form for more radiator flow but not sure how much I'd really gain. I also think it needs a floating Pony ('93 Cobra size or Ford oval).

Like J said function over form right?? . Us aero-Fox guys dont have all the grill area you do;). At this point I'll try anything to keep under hood temps down, I've tried all the basic stuff with no luck.

My turbo sits behind the right headlamp with the inlet facing forward, I datalogged with the headlight in and removed, but didnt see any difference in temp drop on both passes. Its almost a direct shot to the turbo with the light out, but I guess it was still drawing in the underhood heat without any sort of ducting to direct the airflow. I thought for sure it would of helped some but it didnt.

Yes, I have tried several set-ups ... Not the best picture, but this pulled cold air from under the fender ...

Much the same as your experience, I have tried with and without the intake pipe, also with and without the filter. None of those made a difference to IAT's (Actually MAT in my set-up) or performance.

It is still on my agenda to set up something to feed cold air to the new set-up. Not sure if i'm just going to kick out through the fender apron or try to build something ... I have these "slits" on both sides of the opening that will feed the intercooler ... I have had thoughts of building a "box" under the front bumper and letting the air come in via that slit like a little bit of ram air. Not sure I will have room for that with new intercooler pipes running through that area ... Still TBD

How about just removing that big heat energy to power conversion device

Keep in mind, what I linked isn't the typical thermal coating (keep heat in). I think I have that covered, but your right Swain is amazing.

What I linked is the oppososite, it is supposed to aid heat transfer for intercoolers and such.

I dont know if I buy into DIY thermal coatings, do they really work? I have no personal experience with them and they seem to be very expensive. Too expensive for me to experiment with. Let us know your results Bob

I got the Shelby hood vent, had to cut about a 10 inch section from the middle to make it fit between the contours of the hood. Made a template and marked it out on masking tape on the hood, now its time to start cutting . I'll post pics when done, if I dont, you'll know it didnt go well

C'mon... Under 50 for a bottle of coating ... Versus a 50 Shelby vent and a big honking hole in the hood. Lol who is the gambler here ;)

To your question though, a lot of the turbo ford crowd is DIY thermal coatings and seem happy. Time will tell.

I will post results when I get it done. Likely over the holidays. Looking forward to your pictures pass / fail ;)

A little progress. Vent was too long, so had to cut out about a 8 inch section. Bonded the two pieces together, has a textured surface, going to sand the whole thing smooth. It looks gray up against the black hood, I think Im going to paint the same color as the hood so it doesnt stand out as much. ( Dont mind the headlights, those are coming off in favor of the smoked 6 piece stock type lights.)

    Damn, I like that Chad!
The first pics looks like it would be too wide but the last looks like it fits the stock cowl lift perfectly.
Can you get a side/angled finished pic?
Are you going to paint it to match the hood?
I may have to steal this idea but with a small cowl hood :)

Nice! This will sound wrong, but it's not as bad as I thought it might look :D I like it ... you didn't happen to grab a measurement across the flange at the back (widest point) before you cut it did you?

When you say cut and bond, how was that done and what does the seam look like?

Also, notices in a recent mag, Cervini's now makes a flanged louver panel the list for 05-09 cars ...

    https://www.cervinis.com/large.aspx?img=1532_1_big.png

They go for $100.00 so not exactly cheap.

I have been looking at cosworth louvers as they are a little smaller and kind of fit the 2.3 crowd. They also have a flange. They was really engineered by Ford as heat extractors and the Merkur crowd claims they work well ... Thinking about one of these on each side of the cowl.

Also ran into this on a Supra forum although its a sweedish car .... lol, but they was having a suimilar discussion to this one. The point is real measurements of pressures in areas in front of and under the hood ... RED numbers are under hood, BLUE are outside.

You can see the logical place for an extractor up front with +.365 under hood and -1.02 outside ...
