Stag Arms AR15 - Anyone got one?

I've been toying around with getting my restricted permit and buying one of their models of the AR15 that's available in Canada. Anyone ever own/shoot one? This would purely be a target shooting toy as only unrestricted rifles are permitted for hunting (has to do with barrel length).

Anyone have any experience with Stag Arms or their rifles?

EDIT - This is the one I am considering: http://www.armseast.com/store/stag_1...ion._1/7_govt/

EDIT 2 - An alternate I'm also considering due to lower cost and (far) cheaper ammo is this: http://www.armseast.com/store/smith_...readed_barrel/ With the property size I have I could use this for plinking in the woods without LEO giving me a hard time (you have to be 400m from the road to discharge a gun, and a report from a 22LR wont be noticed by anyone).

I've never shot one but I hear they are good quality guns, and the price reflects it! I am in the market for an AR soon too. Seems like building one is the way to go according to most. I forget where but people found Stag uppers for $6XX and then you can buy a lower for like $1XX-$2XX.

I've heard two opinions for building your own. On the one hand, I've heard that its the way to go. On the other hand, I was told you need certain jigs in order to get certain portions set up properly and a gunsmith is strongly suggested.

Yes, the price is steep and there is a chinese made ar15 that is cheaper and mechanically seems comparable (people complain about a poor finish though). That being said, I'm willing to pay the extra money to stay in north america for known quality from a known, reputable company.

You can build your own lower on your coffee table while watching TV. I have built 2 of my own and they are simple.
The uppers are another story where the headspacing is concerned. Some say it matters, some say it dosen't. I believe in making it right, so to me it matters.

Holy hell that's a lot of money for a Stag. Nothing against them but you could get a Colt or a BCM for way less than that. IMO those are two of the best out of the box AR's. Here's a comparable Colt for example. Not sure about importing laws or anything, just an example.

As Bonecrusher said, they are not bad guns, but there are better AR's out there such as BCM, Daniel Defense, Colt and LMT to name a few.

In the AR world you will get what you pay for.

All uppers and barrels are headspaced from the factory, so it's not a concern when buying or building an upper.

Thats the problem. Only certain AR's can be imported, and I'll have to double check but I believe that none of the colts are importable.

EDIT - thats a nice rifle. If they make a 5 round clip for it, then it could probably be imported.
EDIT2- Just checked the restricted list. the Colt AR15 is on it, so in theory it can be imported if the US Gov't will permit the export of it. Most of the things I saw on the prohibited list were full autos that don't really have a place in hunting or sport (e.g. AK47).

Here's a list of restricted and prohibited firearms in Canada, courtesy of the RCMP:

It also includes the definition of a prohibited firearm.
