Headlight switch problem – 87 Fox Body

I had a problem with my headlight switch. Sometimes the dash lights would not light. Once or twice the headlights would not light. Simply wiggling the switch took care of the problem. I bought a new switch from Blue Oval Industries and was going to install it while I had the dash out, but I found a surprise. See the picture below.

Is this a common problem? Do they sell this connector on a pigtail? Do I have to swap the whole harness? The harness appears to be most of the dash wiring. It goes though the firewall and connects to the lights.

If it's a GT 87-93 a potential problem may occur when using a jumper wire so the fogs can be operated without the headlights needing to be on. This wiring mod is said to cause the wires to become hot from the current draw. Is the harness pigtail modified in any way?

That is fairly common. I have the repair plug and harnesses in stock.

If you wish to wire you fog lights as mentioned above, you MUST wire in a relay!

did that fix... pretty easy... if you pull your covers off the column and pull the multifunction switch out, your connector into that might be melted as well causing your other problems....

This is a stock LX. The only modifications were a set of Cobra R wheels and window louvers. No jumpers here, just a loose connection is my guess.

All the connectors attaching to the steering column look good. Thanks for the warning.
