I don't remember seeing the carbon fiber stuff but still a clean low miles car. Also, my buddies 00gt had the 3650. I always thought they were a mid year thing in the 2000's. I remember being under his car and looking at it.

I thought the same thing. Hard to get around that with a stock stang though.

My '01 had the TR-3650 and the plastic crossover on the intake. It must've been built on a magical in-between day. never drove mine in the winter except to trade it in on the Silverado last Feb. and I got it stuck in my driveway... so good luck with that. LOL!

the '01-'04 have the raised hood scoop and side scoops that came standard on the Bullitt.

Not 100% on this- but didn't the 99/00 and first half 01 cars come with engines built at the Windsor plant, while 01-04 cars had engines built at the Romeo plant with slighly different components? I've heard that the Windsor 2Vs made slightly more power stock vs stock and run a little better- not sure how much trust there is to this and it's been quite a few years now.

That is half correct. The 01 and up cars did get the raised scoop and different side scoops but the Bullitt scoops were flush with the body and had no black inserts. The 01+ gt scoops stuck out from the body more than the 99 style.
I drove my gt for 3 winters with snow tires and 4.10 gears and it was a tank in the snow.

Yes they did switch to the Romeo plant mid 01. Compression was the same in both motors but I believe the crank is slightly different in them. I don't know if the 99-00 cars are faster but I swear my buddies 99 was always louder stock vs stock

The early edges ran low 17s.

The late edges ran high 16s.

    This is all correct.

I love your VW. Hate to see it go for a DD edge GT but I get why you're doing it.

I also heard a rumor that there was a computer change from the 99-00 to the 01-04 as the 99-00 was more aggressive.

My 2000 seemed faster, stock for stock, then equal 01-04's.

Mine would get steady 27-28mpg highway on PA turnpike....with a few 29's and once I got 30.0. "Around town" driving was 20mpg.

THey run 14.0's in stock trim with decent handling and decent braking (compared to most other cars on the road), good fuel mileage on 87 octane, and are cheap.
agreed, I got descent mileage with mine, specially on the highway it was pretty nice as well (minor bolt ons)

mine was terrible in the snow. Not 100 % sure why, maybe because it was an auto and I never put actual snow tires/weight in the back. It was a PITA to get anywhere. A 10 minute drive from work to home took a good hour if not more in just 2.5-3.5 inches of snow.

lol..do you have to start something with everyone? all I ever see is you swinging from someones nuts about something ridiculous..not even sure why your on this board, I've never read anything you've posted that was good information or something of use.

Overall, I wouldn't trade the VW for a DD mustang...you may end up throwing money at it at some point and modding the hell outta it, hahaha..good luck either way you decide to go!
