    Painted GT500 stripes...

Since I screwed up by melting part of the rear valance... I decided to buy a new one. So I see this as an upgrade opportunity...

Ford wants to charge 109 dollars per side on the stripe kit for the bumper :flip: So I see that it's time to do the car right and get the stripes painted on.

I'm going to keep the stripes High Performance white as to keep it matched to the production numbers... Although the Vista Blue / Tungsten stripe combination is just beautiful. I feel like it would be as bad as a Fobra or Faleen as they only made what? 119 in 2007 that were Vista Blue with Tungsten stripes...

Just wanted some opinions. I know the GT500 will never be the same GT500 from the 1960s as far as rarity and value for numbers matching, but I think keeping it matching is the way to go.

+1. I have never been one to worry about what others think of what I do to cars.

I'd love to get a 93, 95, or 00 cobra R and mod that bitch into a track beast and flip a bird to all the purists that think a hunk of metal that gulps up gasoline is a shrine to be worshiped. They're cars, you can't take them with you, and if anyone buys a car as an investment, I'd like to talk to them about some oceanfront real estate opportunities in Nebraska.

Do what you want to the car as long as it's done well, that's my view.

what are going to do about the side stripes?

if you change from white then you have to buy or paint new side stripes

i wouldnt worry about the color - if you took your car to shelby for a 40th anniversary package they change the stripes to tungsten

do you have any estimates yet to paint stripes?

I planned to keep the vinyl on the sides, I don't think the paint shop (Crestview auto body in East Liverpool, Ohio) will be able to get the sides done right... But I haven't called for an estimate yet. I know I can buy tungsten side vinyls for it as well. I wasn't away the 40th anniversary package also used Tungsten... Interesting.

Ill see what they say, I might give them a call tonight for an estimate. When I hit a deer in my 2005 GT, They pulled the passenger side headlight bucket out, Painted two fenders, a side skirt, a trunk deck (went for the "spoiler delete" look), prepped and painted the Cervini's Ram air hood and also installed the Shelby Hood pins for around 1100-1500 I believe... Of course white is cheap to paint.. but all the work came at a good price.

Thanks for the input! Just didn't want to be a "poser", I guess Tungsten stripes wont ruin a GT500... It also makes Anthracite colored wheels a possibility!

I would be a go for the Tungsten... Still trying to find the rocker pannel decals. As it turns out, Fordparts.com didn't have them...

And no, no ricing. I get uptight about 2" wide and a 1/4" of my rear valance getting melted... I'm too high maintenance to be ricing.

I personally would never paint anything on......I try to keep things returnable to stock for resale even if i think im going to keep it forever. by doing non permanent mods anyone can change the car to their taste and whenever i looked at a used car thats exactly the kind of thing i look for. This always makes for a quick and easy resale. if you paint the stripes on there will be no way to ever return to factory paint!

but hey........as said earlier i didnt pay for it, do what you want

For the price of the car I think Shelbys should have come with painted stripes, I think vinyl stripes look so generic and ricey :D. You know how many I have seen with bubbles and peeling from the factory

I think I will SteelTownStang, Love your car man. We're getting close to having the same mod list, but having 19 days at home and a garage-widow fiancee, I never have enough time to do nice write ups.

Eh well. I feel the same because I don't want the paint to be hosed. I guess its all about finding a shop with a good reputation for quality work. Personally, I think the GT500s look naked without the stripes. The regular S197s... not so much. Returning the car to stock would never be a problem... I'm that guy that has every part off the GT500 stored and labeled. 50 years from now, it might be hard to find those manifolds. :D

Exactly. My fear is the white "yellowing", then have these shitty, creamy colored stripes. Its not only Ford though, The new Camaro SS and Challenger SRT8 are also "vinylized" with their decals...
