    Gears, What to go with?

Swapping a T56 into my '99 cobra. I have run 4.10's with the T45 but now having the closer ratios, I am wondering if it is gonna be too much gear. Since the diff is coming out to get resealed and a new pinion flange, I'm pulling out the 3.27s. Deciding whether to go back to the 4.10s or run 3.73s?

ALL YOU TERMINATORS........... Any of you swapped out the 3.55s?

I went to 4.10's for short time but traction was absolutely non existant at my level of power. I was spinning the drag radials with 16# of air in them from 50+mph rolls. I decided to go back to 3.55's. I do think that 3.73-3.90 is the ideal gear chioce for a Terminator with 500+ RWHP but 3.73's are too close to stock to change and the 3.90 ratio isn't available in Ford gears.

Smallvile what kind of power are you at, and are you gearing for general fun or for the track?

I ran a 4.56 in my Mach 1 and LOVED it!

If your Cobra is not supercharged I'd stick with your 4.10.
Of course if you didn't have the 4.10 already I'd go with a 4.30 or 4.56 depending on your rpm going through the traps. :)

More into the "fun" factor of it, but I don't want the 3,000+rpm highway cruise. Little track time, moreso when everyone else is there that I have something to run.

Is this a N/A application? Why would you want less rear gear when switching to a T-56. Isn't the sixth gear O.D. in the T-56 more of an overdrive gear than the T-45's O.D?

yes but just barely, T-45 5th gear is .67 where the T56 6th gear is .62

since a T56 is a T56 or very close...think of it like this. my boy's SS runs 456s and only spins 2400rpms around 70mph with 26" tires

for my setup im running 4.88s with 30" tall tire for my t56

so depending on the setup 456 might be somehting for you. and to anyone that says first is nonexistant..well dont listen to htem. in the SS which should have very close ratios as the stang T56 his first is just like others. you can daily this car any time you want or go out and hamer the hell out of it

Well yeah, My buddy has a mid '90s TA with 4.10s and at the strip it's ALMOST pointless to use first gear, but around town it is kinda fun. his cruising rpm is up there though, around 2700 at 75,with stock tires. I KNOW the ratios are different, through tremec themselves. Chevies use a lower first gear than the ford and 6th is slightly lower but like .02 or something miniscule like that. But seems most are hinting towards going back to 4.10s.

burnouts and more burnouts I guess!!!

lack of traction is no suspension or proper tire...get good tires and feel the benefit of gears
