Well back in September I posted to see if any of the site sponsor wanted to work on my engine bay and I didn't get any response. Since my money will spend any where I decided go with someone local.

Removed all moldings, hood, export brace and fenders today. Planing on pulling the engine on Tuesday. While I have the fenders off I am going to paint the inner sides with some Rustoleum. Just wanted to take that extra step while they are off. I also need to order new Fender Splash Shields. The ones we took off the car are so rusted they are falling apart. Also pulling off the Splash Shields we could see some old body repair has been done. Saw a few patches. Will post more photos as we go along.

Looks like a really nice and solid car! Any plans to lose those front drums? The Granada conversion is super cheap and works well!!

If I have any money left over I was going to do that. Do you have a supplier where I could get a price on the Granada conversion you spoke of?

No supplier needed. You just need to locate a set of Granada front disc spindles. From there you just need Granada rotors and calipers ( at the parts store it cost me $100 total for the rotors and reman calipers 15 years ago ), new inner and outer bearings, some new Granada flex lines, Boss 302 outer tie-rods, caliper mounting kit ( cheap ), some adapters here and there, and a Granada front disc master cylinder. Then, just plumb an adjustable proportioning valve into your rear brake line and you're in business.

I bet Lou can track down the spindles for you. When I bought mine, I got the spindles ( already cleaned up and epoxy primered ) and a manual center steering link for under $150.

All told, I'm thinking that today you can put the whole thing together for around $400. I'd bend and flare some new hard lines from the MC to each front wheel - and for the passenger side, I'd split it into 2 lines joined with a union.

Let me know if you have any more questions - I'll help any way I can.

EDIT::: My car is a '66. I'm pretty sure everything needed for your '67/68 style would be the same...
There is a ton of info on www.vintage-mustang.com - so check that out if you haven't already.

I put a SSBC disc kit on our 65 fastback, worked and fit great. Good luck with your build.

The SSBC stuff is great - no question. But it will run you about double the Granada conversion. All depends on your budget.

    Pulled the engine today!!!

I am working on my engine bay and starting to paint the small items and I wanted to know if I will have any problems painting "with rattle cans" my exhaust headers? I was planing on using Rust-oleum Engine Enamel the 2000 degree paint. Does anyone have any tips or another product this is better to use than this?

    Odd looking set of Tri-y's....

Even with proper prep I wouldn't expect rattle can anything to hold up.

Those are called Tri Y headers, they actually perform pretty well on a mostly stock engine and provide the much needed clearance in the tight early Mustang engine bay.

So what are my option? Powder Coat? Or just order new Tri-Y's?

If they are in real good condition, I would send them out to get ceramic coated. You will pay about as much to do that as new headers but they will last. The coatings that come on headers from header companys never seens to last, even the ceramic. Getting them done from a place that does coatings will ensure you get a good job and also a warranty on the finish. Jet Hot is one that comes to mind.

Yep - what Lou said. This style header was what came on the '65 & '66 GT350s. They actually perform quite well on stock and mild engines. CollinsPC ( Randy ) does a nice job powdercoating from what I've heard. In the past I have gone to a place in Hopewell ( Prism Powdercoating ) that has done a really nice job on my stuff ( valve covers, headers ) as well as exhaust manifolds on my Dad's '57 T-Bird.
