Anyone know how to roll fenders?

I need to roll my fenders and was wondering if anyone has done it or has a eastwood fender roller. Im fairly confident I can do it myself but its one of those things id like someone helping me that has actually done it before and knows what their doing.

    I...

...had mine roll'd for 200 bucks supposely with one of those fender roller's and all the paint chipped the whole way around on the inner fenders. I had to wet sand it and paint it myself afterwards! Plus their was werble/wavy dents on the outside of the fenders too. I had a professional look at n said it cost over 1000 bucks to fix it. I honestly would never do it, or have it done again to one of my vehicles. It would be best to let the tires do it or cut the lip out!!

Ive done w/ the eastwood tool and mine came out nice. Its def a time consuming process and you have to have a lil intelligence for working w/ metal.

At one time Joe PureStock had posted that he bought one of these tools and was renting it out.

If you do it yourself, you'll need a heat gun to gently warm up the paint on the lip before and while you start rolling it. You really have to take your time or you'll crack the paint and wish you hadn't done it.

Maybe one of the vendors here can handle this for you.

I think you got screwed.... If done properly none of this should happen. I would have gone back to whoever did it and seen if they would fix it, if not... Legal action... probably too late now though!

I did mine last Fall. It definitely takes some (Ok alot) patience and more heat than you're probably comfortable putting on your paint. We found that heating the metal from the inside of the lip worked best. Cracking paint depends on how much paint you have on your lips. More is not better in this case. The waviness is more a problem on the quarter-panels due to the 2-ply construction and happens when you don't take enough time to heat it and take small steps to stretch it.

If you "let your tires do it" you're guaranteed to have cut up tires AND cracked paint. (not sure if that was a serious suggestion or not?) Ideally you would do this if/when you are repainting the car but that's not always an option...

Cutting the lip off wouldn't have been an option on my 87 (at least in the front) since it actually helped to push the flare out a bit and your inner fender-well is attached on the lip.

Depending on your wheel/tire setup this is necessary...

    Here's a look at mine:

yea im nervous as hell and dont think I can do it now haha. My tire already made contact with one and pushed it up slightly which is why I want to do it now. It is wierd tho because my car was fine for two years like that and then the night I put it in storage I noticed my tire cut alittle. O well looks like ill be looking for a professional to do it.

Does your car have original paint? That may help since Ford doesn't put as much paint in those areas as most painters would in a body shop.

I'm not sure where you're located but you might want to check out RPM Hot Rods in Warrandale. They do great work and gave me a good quote to do it although I ended up doing it myself.

    Good luck!
