Thread: 97 Cobra no start

    97 Cobra no start

    Bought a cobra couple months back and parked it in a garage. Buffed it today and went to pull outside for pics and battery was dead. So there was a spare laying around and it got swapped it. Get in and it fired up only to shut off a few seconds later. Theft light will blink when door gets opened. However you can move the door to a certain spot and the light will go away but still no start. I tried disconnecting the battery. using the remote. using the key. nothing works. And its not the original ford key that I have. Any ideas?

    i believe so? looks like a factory remote. not sure tho lol. theres a wire ran into the fuse box and i dont know what else it could be for as this car has no gauges or aftermarket stereo

    Are you sure the battery for trouble shooting is good?

    Fired right up originally with it. was in another car. has that no crank start up bullshit going on

    What does the odometer say when you put the key in and turn the ignition on? If its all hash marks, that means your PATS has been triggered. Does the fuel pump prime?

    odometer isnt digital on 97s

    Ryan found this online....not sure if you want to get rid of security all together or not? If thats whats actually keeping it from starting?



    If it's the OEM FACTORY alarm (ie; horn honk, headlights),
    then the FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE is a dark
    green/purple wire |-|, Located in the drivers kick panel
    area coming out of the door or, at the
    Anti Theft Control Unit located left rear
    of trunk behind trim panel

    Once Located, splice into the wire with
    a simular guage wire, and put it to
    a solid chassis ground. This terminates
    the alarm functions entirely

    best way to describe it i suppose is.. it doesnt seem to turn over when cranking it. it just wont allow the car to do anything

    Sounds like a bad battery to me.

    The only time I had issues with startup was with my cars security control. I'm sure you have looked there. Lets go down the line. What have you changed since the last startup, and run fine?

    hit the lock then unlock on the remote then try to start

    so it just goes "click" and thats it? sounds like a bad/dead battery or maybe your starter is stuck....could try tapping on it w/ a small hammer

    if its not cranking then its not the pats system, if it was the pats it would just crank with no start.

    its not the battery. has plenty of power. i tried everything with the remote it doesnt work. Im figuring its the pats system as well tho unfortunately

    it cranks but its not like your typical crank as if it had no fuel or spark.
