Well of course PRP is slower than those listed. Those tracks have historically GREAT air. We are 1000 feet higher (give or take) than those tracks at PRP, before ever even taking into account the weather. I don't believe however that PRP is a slow track. I have been to places that are SLOW, such as Quaker City and Bristol.

my theory is a new smooth burnout box will produce a more consistant tire temp across the tire and there for producing a better 60ft and a quicker et

Interesting theory. Our boxes weren't really bad as far as smoothness goes. They are just adding length? If not for wanting added length they wouldn't have replaced them.

Here you go, I looked up all of the track elevations for you guys. I see elevation differences, but I don't see where mother nature supposedly injects nitrous into the air at some and pulls oxygen molecules from the air at others....
Track elevations:
Beaver Springs: 642'
Maple Grove: 548'
Numidia: 972'
PRP: 1210'
Quaker City: 1300'
Summit/Norwalk: 853'
Thompson: 1400'
Dragway 42: 700'
75-80: 500'
Capitol raceway: 250'
Cecil county: 320'
Mason Dixon: 530'
Budd's Creek: 80'
Atco: 33'
Englishtown: 86'
In my humble opinion if there is to be any work done in the burnout boxes at PRP 2 things need addressed above and beyond lengthening it. First the box should be widened so that a safety risk doesn't exist for those running behind FWD or AWD cars. Widen the box and allow FWD and RWD to go around the water. Second there absolutely should be some sort of barrier/wall to protect cars and spectators from potentially lethal rocks being thrown back from the burn out box. I always try to get into lane 1, if I don't then I do everything I can to make sure I end up back by the bathrooms so that I am protected from the rocks. I've seen cars and spectators hit with huge potential for un-needed injury.

??? Mother nature does this with barometric pressure, temperature, and humidity changes that can be expressed as density altitude (DA)... in effect, adding or taking away oxygen with pressure
Sea level tracks like Cecil (and Atco) can really see some huge negative DA's that are huge for performance with more oxygen filling (especially spring and fall). These runs was likely made at an effective 1000 feet below sea level, or in other words a hell of a lot more oxygen in the air at a higher pressure. A buddy of mine that runs Cecil has told me he has been at +3800 feet at Cecil in the heat / humidity of summer so it's not a total paradise ;)

Here is a good calculator to play with ...
http://www.wallaceracing.com/convert-et-to-msa.php
Just for fun with some assumptions ... I took Joe's 12.22 at 115 and some base data with some assumptions (humidity assumed dry at 15%, used 40 degrees and 30.10 barometer)from his first run, then plugged in PRP data that I have seen for a typical early summer test and tune night and here is what is spit out ...
Your Original Run: ET - 12.22 MPH - 115 Corrected Run To Conditions Today:ET - 12.64MPH - 111.20
I would say mother nature does a good job managing that oxygen (not to discount Joes driving either as it's a great package on street tires) ...
Good Runs. These new 5.0's are off the hook. Maybe in a year or two I'll pick one up.

I have nothing to do with the running/owning of the track. I say "our" and "we" just like Steelers fans say "we" lost in the super bowl. Same thing, pride in my home track is all.
Bob, thanks for explaining all of that. It can be like "nitrous" (more like supercharging due to the increased pressure that the air is being subjected to). Folks throw down some killer runs at those east coast tracks when the air is cool. We RARELY see sub 1000' air let alone sub-sea level air at PRP.

Do you guys need directions to Cecil ?I have the address then you too can take advantage of the supercharged air

Bob, let me clarify... I know you are aware that I drag raced for years and although I don't do it much anymore I am full aware of DA and what effects it. I used to gear up all week when I saw a high pressure front moving in from the west and I constantly watched the wind directions closely to see if I'd have a tail, cross, or head wind when I got to PRP. My intention with my post was to poke fun at the notion that Cecil has "nitrous" in the air and that PRP always has shitty air as though mother nature was playing favorites and had a personal vendetta against it. I always raced for time slips, bragging rights, and to see what my modifications did to the car. Since these were my goals and I understood full well that the denser, cooler, and more oxygen filled the air was when I ran the better my times would be, I started going to tracks like Cecil and such 1-3 times a year versus running at PRP every week. In the end it cost me about the same amount of money per year and I accomplished my goals for why I raced in the first place. Having said that I'd love to see what the crazy 2.3 of yours would do at a track such as Cecil with a killer DA.
Chuck, I would gladly voice my opinion but if past practices dictate future results then I feel I would be wasting my time. The one other benefit I acquired by running at other tracks was to gain perspective and the ability to compare the attitude, planning, and execution of a race day from other tracks in comparison to PRP. That is the other main reason I went from being at PRP every single test and tune day from the time the track opened until the last event of the year, to hardly running there at all. Hell for two years in a row I was the very first car down the track on the first test of tune of the year. I was dedicated, even though I was a lowly test and tune guy.. I even moved my work schedule around so that I could be at PRP a good hour to 45 minutes before the gates opened so that I could let the car cool down before racing started. My dad and I were regular fixtures there for many years, but that has definitely changed. If you feel it wouldn't fall on deaf ears I would gladly take the time to voice this opinion to them.
