Ford’s all-new 2012 Boss 302 Mustangs have finally hit the streets, and if anyone believed that enthusiasts would waste a single moment wringing these killer machines out, they were sorely mistaken. A video hit the web in the middle part of the week showing a brand spankin’ new Boss, still sporting the sticker in the window, cranking off an awe-inspiring 11.72 elapsed time at 117 miles per hour on its maiden voyage down the 1320 at the Maryland International Raceway in Budds Creek, MD.
The car was first taken to the track prior to the adjustment of the rear sway bar brackets to accommodate a set of radials or slicks and instead ran bone stock on the factory Pirelli tires. That outing netted a still impressive 12.38 at 115, and upon the return trip, the car was outfitted with a set of drag radials and filled with 110 octane fuel, allowing it to crank off the 11-second clocking. The car is otherwise direct from the factory, providing a great indication of just how stout these new premium model cars are.
The Boss 302 features several enhancements over the 5.0L GT, including a new 440 horsepower, Hi-Po 302 4V V8 sporting a new intake manifold, forged pistons, sodium valves, valve springs, new rods, oil cooler, and high lift cams, along with improved shocks, a full exhaust system, and Brembo performance brakes.
Eleven-second performances off the showroom floor is impressive to say the least, and this car already has the attention of those in the GM and Chrysler camp. We expect to see a lot more of the Boss 302 on the quarter mile in the coming days and weeks, so keep it tuned tight here as we bring you all of the impressive exploits of this great new Pony.
