I chose not to get mine undercoated. It makes it a sticky mess when you want to work on it and it makes the engine bay look like shit. I have wire brushed and rustoleumed a frame before. That turned out good.

X2. I wish I never undercoated mine. Looks like hell underneath with all the sticky stuff.

Umm pretty sure my uncle had mine undercoated from the factory. I had to have my engine bay clean'd a few years back, cause over time it became quite nasty from the over spray of the undercoating!

I did the underside of my car with por-15 and used undercoating on the inside under my carpet to hold off the rust from all sides. (my t-tops leak so the interior gets wet)

I got this one,,,,, In 1986 I bought a new Chevy truck I heated and sprayed army surplus cosmoline and covered everything. I still have the truck and it is rusted all to Hell. With exception of the right hand side of the rear end housing. For some reason before I undercoated it I was messing around and sprayed that cheap enamel paint on one side of the rear end, That one spot looks good even the brake line.

So,, Think about it the underneath has no paint on to speak of. What if the outside of the car had no paint?
any grease will slowly evaporate just like gas.
I have a 1991 fox that I bought in Florida and it was spotless.
I put it on a rack and really cleaned it well underneath with a rented power washer.
Then I went to napa and bought a gallon of the cheap tractor enamel Paint and a gallon of reducer. I gave the car a day to dry out and I painted everything heavy with black paint. That was about 5 years a go and it is still rust free underneath.
I ran this car year round and the winters are really bad here lots of snow and lots of salt on the roads. sometimes when I work on it the paint does clog up the threads on the bolts and they come off a little stiff but that's better than needing a torch to cut everything apart. I just can't tell you how much better a coat of paint is compared to undercoating. When I know I'm going to work on this car underneath I stop at the car wash and spray the area I'm going be working on and it is clean. And there's no sticky nasty stuff on me or my tools.
The cheap enamel is the best to use it stays sort of soft and doesn't chip off to much. And when you spray it on it's so thin and runny it gets in all the cracks and crevestes. when cars are new sometimes you can tell the rear end and stuff are bare steel. As is all the bolts brake lines. Paint it --think about it
    Lee Hamrick said that
Think I should do a post on undercoating?--Have pictures of truck and the mustang
