    Best cold air intake????

Just have my new toy my 2005 mustang but unfortunately it is a v6: ( I'm only 17 years old and can't afford v8 insurance so i got a v6 but to the point i was trying to find the best intake/part to add some power to the Stang. But as i discovered all 2005 mustangs require tuners when adding and swapping most parts. So looking at tuners and intakes combined its 500+ dollars which is alot for me. So any ideas or suggestions to add some power?

How much do gears usually run and would it need a tune for that?

i don't know, as i'm not a hardcore ford guy, but i'd bet gears will run you $300 installed, give or take a bit...

more importantly, if you put gears in it, and don't get a tune, your speedo will be off, so you'll have to go by some of those speed signs to get an idea of how far off yoru speedo is

to get teh most out of any modern-day car, you're going to want a tuner....

just save your pennies... its not a cheap hobby... but it'll pay off if you save your money and make the right mods.. don't spend $50 here and $75 there on stupid crap....

I want stripes and window tint as far as the exterior of my car. And the engine I have no idea. I can't find a good tuner for under 250-300 dollars. If i get a tuner ill probabily get an sct

If you actually want to have a quick car and can't afford V8 insurance...save your money (meaning, don't buy stuff like stripes or window tint) until you have enough to buy this:

    Or this:
    http://www.americanmuscle.com/mustan...er-0506v6.html

...or just leave the car as-is, drive it for a few years, and then buy a GT or something else. Nothing wrong with liking your V6 'Stang and enjoying it, it's definitely a really cool car for a 17 year old...but buying stuff like a CAI and tuner for a sixxer 'Stang is basically a waste of money.

As a fellow V6er my advice is to get an aluminum driveshaft. Don't dyno your car with the stock shaft, they've come apart, look on youtube. From experience there's more noticeable gain by doing this than adding a CAI. Then of course you'll want two wheel spin, so you'll need tracloc. And gears. Two ways to do this:
    1. Get the gears and tracloc and get them installed in your 7.5.
    2. Find a GT takeoff 8.8 rearend. GT's came stock with the same 3.55, but you may luck out and find one with 3.73 or 4.10. Cost is about the same as having gears installed, I'd say $700.

After that get your CAI//tuner. I went with Demolet, not sure if he's still around I believe he sold the biz.

i have a cai that doesnt require a tune, my first mod. They are out there you just dont get as much power gain, found a dyno sheet online of the same thing as mine stock and with the intake and it added 7 hp and 7 ft/lbs to it. Next the exhaust is being done this week you can got he cheap route like i am, i got mufflers from a new 5.0 and am having them custom fit, true dual. pipe shop said it would cost between 2-300 for that and i paid 100 for the mufflers slightly used. i was always told intake and exhaust were good things to start with when modifying

Darn I just threw away a bunch of GT mufflers (Roush Takeoffs) had no idea the 6 bangers might want them.

i agree with this guy... dont' waste your money until you can buy something that really makes a difference.... and by that time, you might be able to trade up to a V8.... which is going to be the better route anyhow

I usually don't speak up on the whole V6 vs V8 thing...take the argument to the extreme and don't buy a GT until you can get a GT500, don't buy a GT500 until you can get a Vette, a Porsche, a Lambo...it's endless. These V6's have more power than those 89 Fox's everyone drooled over years ago. Not everyone can afford the GT or it's easier to mod a V6 a little at a time. Better to have the V6 than some Hyundai or Kia or Cobalt, ain't it?

I'd love to have a GT, but for us it wasn't possible at the time and we wanted a Mustang, so V6 over no Mustang won out. Not bitter or anything, it just gets old hearing the 'it's a V6 so don't waste your time'...99% of all car purchases are a losing investment, so just have fun with what you got.

I 100 percent agree with you. I posted this so i could mod my v6 and make it a little faster then stock nothing insane just looking for a base point. Having a GT is just something that i really doubt will Happen for me. I mean its rare enough that a 17 year old is driving around any kind of 2005 mustang that i paid for myself. Maybe when I'm in my 20's and out of school ill get a gt but for now I'm stuck with my V6 and gonna make the best of it. But I just wanna know the best mods for my v6 so when i have a couple hundred bucks in a few weeks i can get my first parts. The gt takeoffs sound like a good idea

X2!! Well Said..To the OP, i myself only bought a v6 because I was 18 when i bought it and insurance was rediculous for a GT.. I installed a K&N Typhoon CAI n no tune is needed.
