    Project why leave it alone

I'm embarking to modify the XLR which by the aftermarket support seems to be forbidden. The only bolt-on that I can find is a corsa or magna flow catback. There isn't even a cai for the 2004 xlr! I'm starting with a diy cold air intake that hopefully doesn't look like total crap. The factory air intake is tiny and full of hard angles. Also want to do away with the factory air silencer

Here is the factory system. The air gets sucked under the lids, then makes an abrupt turn back on itself to go through the filters, then a sharp 90 degree turn to go through the flattened out plastic, then another 90 degree turn where it goes through the Y fitting. There is very little room, but I'm going to try to make a larger tube diameter with as few bends as possible.

That's what I was thinking ... might have to cut it down a little but I'm sure you can make it work!

They are built off the C5 chassies, but there seems to be little that interchanges. I've researched some and not coming up with much

I'm guessing because the 99.99% of people that buy XLRs aren't interested in modding it. Its a Cadillac.

Might want to look at some of the Specter stuff ... they make nice "y's" and bits that can be used for this in their DIY kits ...

Their site sucks IMO, but you can get see the stuff on Summit / Jegs too. Typically theit stuff is ricey, but the aluminum DIY stuff is actually sort of okay.

I see these cars come into work all the time. IMO I wouldn't touch it lol. Everyone I have seen modified with little things such as exhaust has had many many issues. They are nightmares to diag most of the time.

    Silverhatch....nice guns!!!

Cam - that looks like a tough one - not much room in there - everything is packed in pretty tight. Good luck!

That's actually what I picked up to use lol. I did like the polished aluminium pieces so thats what I used. The dryer vent and tiny plastic tube I'll do without!

I can believe it. The car is covered front to back with electronics and sensors. Rip it all out and go with an LSX and TH400!

X2!!! That's the way to do it lol. The cars are nice but way to many computers lol. Not saying stuff cant be done just have to triple check things when modding. One thing affects many others on those cars.

Yeah - in 5-10 years find one with a bad motor and drop in a complete Coyote drivetrain with a Kenne Bell...high end luxury with supercar performance...

Here is the almost finished product. I wanted to use the 4" tubing instead of the 3, and I can't find another coupler locally so for right now the one ahead of the maf is home made. I wanted as straight shot as possible and made it with a 45 degree fitting on the goofy over the rad piece to the tb, and a 22 degree piece to fit the filter in the stock and super cramped space. It's a little ricey, but I'm pretty happy with it.

I always thought most of the Corvette parts could be modified for those cars. Guess not. Good job on the CAI though

I wish it was LSX based instead of Northstar based, then it would be very easy to mod.
