According to CBS News for the past 18 years people did not see pictures of caskets draped with the American flag coming home from the war. The ban was placed by former President George H. W. Bush in 1991 during the Gulf War. Now President Barack Obama wants to reverse the policy. According to the CBS News article President Obama wants families to make the decision on whether or not the press can be allowed to come to the ceremonies at Dover Air Force Base, where the caskets arrive from war.
According the CBS News article other countries allow their citizens to see their soldiers come home in caskets. The only photos taken of the caskets coming home have been obtained under the Freedom of Information Act.
Some people disagree with President Obama’s decision others believe the world should see the fallen soldiers.
