Camera guys, thoughts?

I'm looking to pick up a new camera. I'm no photograper, but take lots of pictures of my projects, like track shots, and want a camera that can take good video. I'm mostly a point and shoot kind of guy, and definately need it simply for others to be able to take pictures of my junk (hand someone the camera and say shoot).

A camera that got my attention is this one (wouldnt buy from Crutchfield, just a link) ...

I like the multi picture mode (althought the MP goes down), it seems like basic point and shoot. I am not sure about using AA batrteries (even with recharagables) and am not sure on the manual open flash.

Also, most of my stuff ends up on the net, so it likely goes done in resolution in the end anyway. Any thoughts on this for someone that just likes simple, nice quality pictures?

the G12 is a very nice P&S that adds alot of advanced features to it like a DSLR. What kind of budget are you looking at. are you looking for it to perform well in low light or dont care about that...MP are the least important feature of any new camera..especially on a P&S the more they cram into them the worse the image usually is because of the dense amount of pixels in such a very very very small space and you start to get alot of signal noise in your higher ISO.

Lol, well I do have a 8 mp camera on my HTC Incredible.

Troy - I doubt I make it tomorrow. Trying to get my junk ready for Saturday.

The Cannon is a nice piece, but likely beyond what I was looking to spend.

On edit, Vader, you snuck in on me. Most of what you said is beyond me. Budget is open, but was looking at a sub $300 price if possible. Track pictures are important to me so light varies. Again, I'm no photographer, and really don't want to be, just looking to upgrade a bit from my excilim.
