    Axle shortening

What is the point of shortening the rear when minitubbing? Are there no wheels available with enough backspace? Does a deeper rim interfere with brake lines etc.?( on initial inspection on my car, it doesn't look to be a major obstacle).

I think shorter axle tubes have less deflection. Also, I believe less backspacing helps plant the tires better.

I agree with the above but I think its mainly for wheel selection. You minitub to run a wider wheel/tire and most of the wide wheels commonly have less BS.
I just put 12" wheels with 7.5" BS on my car and luckily they were available with that BS, most have a max of 6" range in that size.

Rear was shortened 1.5" per side from standard Fox width.
Used to have 15x10" 6.5" BS wheels with stock rear, changed to 15x10" 5.5" after I shortened the rear and then just went to the 12" with the 2" added to the BS for 7.5".
    Bill, call me whenever today.

We did 1.5" on mine to try and keep the 6.5" BS wheels I had but when it was done they looked too set-in so I went with 5.5" BS.
I really think shortening EACH side from 1.5-3" does what you want and will keep you in the range of most common wheel sizes.
I wanted mine to sit real close to the flush on the fender, I like how it turned out:

I gotta get some pics of the new 12" wheels and 315/60/15 DRs mounted on the car up at Street Lethal.
