    Long Studs

I'll start this by saying I knew the rule, hell I even posted it on here before ... That said, I hate long studs on the front of a street car. I have had them in the rear for a long time and they are a PITA, but I understand the need. So last Saturday a number of us got caught in tech for not having open end lug nuts with Weld wheels. There was a number of new tech guys working last Saturday.

I bought the needed drill bit, had Lou get me the studs, and I ordered the proper lug nuts. Did mine and another car tonight, and have one more to do later in the week.

    Crappy cell phone pictures ...

I hate them, but it's tech legal now anyway :D

FWIW, the rule is that a stud must extend beyond the face of the wheel by the diameter of the stud. In the case of a Ford, that is 1/2" ... With Weld wheels, a stock stud basically comes to the face of the wheel, but not the required beyond by 1/2.

Also FWIW, I now have the drill bit needed to go up one size and use the cheaper ARP studs to do this if anyone needs to borrow it to do theirs.

About time they started cracking down on little safety related things. Sucks to have to do but safer in the end.

The trusty 39/64" drill bit. Think I have maybe 2 of those. Your lugs hex must be long as most long shank lugs with ARP studs there is normally a few threads showing. That worked out rather well for you Bob.

Your right on the tech Ed, as I said I knew the rule, just didn't want to live with the long studs.

Yes, those nuts are McGards and the hex is a lot longer than the typical shank lug nut. On my rears with the Moser long studs, they actually are in the nut, and I can run the plastic end caps. Didn't work out that way with the front ARPs with the big bullnose.

Thanks. I had those made several years ago. Most people never notice them. The guy that made them for me has them in his advertising he liked them so much.

Did they keep you guys from running over it? I don't have time to fix it between now and Saturday. For some reason I thought it was just the drive wheels. I have them on the rear already. Geeze I don't think that car has ever been really teched in anywhere it's ever run.
