    Typical Mustang Power Window Problem.

The driver's side window in my car doesn't go down. Through my research I've heard this is a common problem. I have taken the mentioned steps to try and remedy it (smack the door panel, slam door with UP button held down, etc) and nothing. I haven't taken the door panel off yet to tap the motor.

My question is, is the motor serviceable outside of the regulator assembly or do I need to replace it all? I figured I can get some answers to plan an attack rather than start tearing stuff apart right away. If I can pull the motor out without taking out the regulator, does anyone have any laying around that work?

Any other ideas to get it going? The pass side switch works as does the lock button. When I hit the down button I can hear it click, but no go on the motor.

    Thanks

Since when were window motors and Mustangs a typical problem? Your getting Mustangs confused with F-bodys and all of GM for that matter LOL.

Anyway you can normally replace the window motor apart from the regulator but its easier just to get the whole assembly most of the time (at least in my experience) and it also saves you the trouble of figuring out if its actually the motor or if its the regulator.

When I did the window motor/regulator in my truck it was like $100 at Advance Auto and took no time at all to do. Then again, its a truck door and not a car door.

If I recall I think the motor is rivited to the regulator. Its not hard though to pull the entire assembly out either. I replaced the motor on mine. I bought a new one from NAPA. Think it was $40

The window motors are bolted in, just be sure to support the window when removing so it doesnt fall. Check the switches 1st.

also try and remove the door panel, smack the motor w/ a rubber hammer or something of that nature...maybe not a permanent fix, but it sure worked for me

I beat the shit out of the panel to try and get the motor to work but no good. I haven't gotten the panel off but as mentioned before I can hear a click at the motor when I hit the switch. I swapped switches between DS and PS and no good so that eliminates the switch. The contacts were also clean on both.

Question is, does the window need to come out of the door to remove the regulator or does it just unbolt from the track and stay there? I'm looking through my reference materials and it says to remove the window, which seems like a major PITA to take out all the weatherstripping etc. If the window stays there, do you just use some type of a wedge to keep it up?

the window stays in. like you said, put a wedge to keep the window up. unbolt the bolts or drill the rivets out and replace the motor and you should be good to go.

I popped the christmas tree off the door panel near the speaker, pulled the panel off the door a little bit, and she works like new. Must have been something on the panel that was binding the motor or something!
