    Hey

New here. Big German car fanatic (Porsche/Audi/VW) dating back to mid 70's.
Pulling the plug on the Factory Five MK4. Searches here turned up a few tidbits but nothing too helpful.
I am attending the "build school" in the fall and plan to make this my next winter's project.
Problem is that I don't have any recent American Muscle experience. And when I did dabble with my dad when young, it was all Mopar.
In fact, all I currently own are metric tools, lol.

I'm trying to source a built up 'Stang engine/manual tranny combination. I don't want to do that work because although I can rebuild a VW/Audi 1.8t or 2.7t with my eyes closed, I have never touched a Ford V8 in my life. Mustangs with just some headers alone are one of the sweetest sounding engines to my ears, though. Anyhow, coupled with the actual build of the MK4 Roadster itself, it's just too much for me to try and build an engine, also.

Anyone recommend a good place, local or national, to buy a built engine? I'd look at going big block, but will work with a 4.6 or 5.0 if it's built up from stock and/or has forced induction (more S/C because I doubt turbos would fit in the Factory Five shell/frame).

Thanks for the replies. It's weird being a senior member and contributor to one car site and a total newb on another. Looking forward to learning mechanical stuff from all of you, even though my project is a kit car and not an actual Mustang body, and I hope not everyone is a dick like some sites can be to newbs.

    Welcome aboard!

I built a FFR Roadster with a buddy years ago - think it was a Mk II version. Each version the body seems to get better and better. I would recommend the ceramic coated 4-into-4 headers on the FFR - they sound great. They're far from quiet - but if you're building one of these, you don't want quiet.

I relatively stock 5.0 / T5 Factory Five will be very quick by most people's standards. Add some nice aluminum heads and a cam and you have a very quick car - probably high 11's in the quarter. If you are used to fast cars already, consider a stroked 351 ( 408 is a nice number ) with a cam, aluminum heads and an upgraded tranny ( TKO ), and you'll be putting and easy 400 to the wheels. In a 2400lb car ( with driver ), that's what I call a handful!

Someone around here on SCS was selling a pretty nice motor built by FordStrokers a while back - not sure if it ever sold. I'm sure some others have decent shortblocks sitting around that would be a nice starting point.

The Factory Five cars are a lot of fun to build. I bet some folks on here would be willing to help. I'd offer to lend a hand if I had any spare time. Good luck, and be sure to start a thread in the "In the Garage" section once you've gotten started!

Welcome to the site. Billy on here had exactly what you looking for but I believe he has sold it.

Looking at your user name I assume your a pharm rep, which company are you with? The industry has taken such a hit I rarely see the reps I used to in my accounts and those that have survived have huge territories now.

Thanks all. I was looking at crate engines. A lot of the peeps on the FFR forums have had good success with Engine Factory stuff. Pricey, but they spec it out well and any quirks about fitment or placement of pumps/pans, etc. due to it being a kit car are pre-though-out so it's a direct plug n play option. Thinking about the 351W, but not so sure about boring or stroking it. I think it's plenty enough for a car so light. We'll see. I'm one of those "gotta know everything before I dive in" type people, so all I do is research and read every forum I can find.
I'm buying a new house and it fortunately has 12 ft. ceilings in the garage, so I'm also sourcing lifts. A lift in my garage would be way nice in doing a build and working on the car.

To the dude asking about pharm rep... yeah, in a past life. Good catch. It's been my screen name on forums forever, so I just never changed it. I'm in medical devices for the last 7 years and it's a blast. Love my job and my company.

I've got some pics laying around of an MK4 roadster with a terminator driveline in it if you need motivation.

    Welcome to SCS.
