Front Brake Pads for 1994 Cobra

What kind of brake pads do you guys run on your Cobras? EBC yellow stuff pads look like a nice street / track option. Any input would be appreciated - stock pads - other brands - whatever you have some experience with.

I'm guessing that the 1994 - 2004 Cobras all use the same pads?

I have been open tracking Mustang Cobra's for about 15 years now, the first 12 years I drove thousands of miles all across the country at various tracks. Initially I tried to find a universal pad like you are asking for, I quickly found out that pads used on the street do not work on track. You will experience brake fade and premature wear. Likewise track pads require much higher operating temperatures to be effective. In the end, I had an aluminum trailer built to drag behind my Cobra and the first thing I did upon arrival at the track was a 4 wheel brake job, pads and rotors. When I was done I would take the track rotors and pads off the car for the ride home. Over time, I was amazed at how fast I could swap these parts out. Thank God I bought a race car and don't do this anymore.

Thanks for the info Brian. I understand what you mean. I won't be tracking the car often. In fact, it'll probably be a pretty rare thing for me. I'm more concerned with getting a pad that is maybe an upgrade from stock, but won't require warm-up like most pure race pads. One that won't completely suck if/when I get to the track, but still delivers very good street braking. That's why the EBC yellow stuff pad looked like it might be a good fit. They claim it is a good blend of street and track performance. Thanks again for your input!

I am running Hawk ceramic pads all around, very low dust (which is also non-metallic) and nice grip.

Yes the 94-04 all use the same pads.

Dan 1 and 2...

I found these on ebay - best deal seems to be $92 including shipping. Is this the same pad you guys used, and does this seem like a good deal to you?

It says these are rotor friendly - how has your experience been with these? Also - were the pads easy to bed? Or did it take a lot of miles until they performed as advertised?

To be honest, I am not sure which Hawk pads are on the car, but I DO know they are Hawk, just haven't taken the brakes apart yet. The ones on the car have very minimal dusting so I'm going to sayy they are probably the Performance Ceramic. They have hardlly any fade and the rotors seem to be in pretty good shape. They squeal a little, but thats a common Mustang thing I think, not sure what's up with it.

However, I've had prior experience with Hawk and they have always seemed to have smooth stopping power and, barring any caliper issues, have been very good to rotors (has two sets in conjunction with power slot rotors). They also seemed to break in well and provided consistent performance over the life of the pad. They aren't quite as thick as some other pads, but they seem to still have a good llife cycle, of course depending on how you drive.

My next set of brakes will definitely be Powerslot rotors and Hawk pads.

I only have the trip to Carlisle and back and one trip to Wexford worth of experience with mine but I like them so far. I bedded them by just doing some varied brake pressure stops on and off one day on some back roads and they have great bite. No evidence of being hard on rotors... I put brand new Baer drilled/slotted rotors all around at the same time and they're still looking brand new. The main thing I like is the decreased, non-metallic dust. The HRE's are polished and I was worried about brake dust etching them so I did everything I could to prevent that. Seems to be working well so far!

Edit: oh and yes the ones you linked to are the Hawks I have. I believe the fronts I paid $110-120ish and the rears were like $60-70? It's been a few months since I ordered them

Thanks for the info guys. I found an ebay link for those Hawk Ceramic pads for $92 shipped, so I think I'm going to jump on those tomorrow. And today I was lucky enough to pick up a nearly new - and immaculate - set of 2003 Cobra rotors from a fellow SCS member for a great price. Thank you Larry!!!
