    PVGP events

Its that time of year again. The vintage gran prix is coming up. Is anyone going to be going to any of the events?

I am planning to go to the waterfront cruise on the 19th, the satuday stuff at Beaverun and the schenley park races. I have only been to the schenley park races before and it was a great time.

Post up what you plan on attending. Maybe I will see some of you there.

    -Chris

I'll be at Schenley Park running the American Car show on Saturday 7/23 and the International Show on Sunday 7/24. We always have a good Mustang turnout. gpfarrell ( Greg ) runs the Walnut Street cruise on Monday 7/22 and has been involved in the PVGP for about 15 years if not more. I know Intel ( Brian ) has come to the Schenley show for many years and will be bringing his really neat Javelin this year. I'd love for a bunch of you folks to come out and enjoy the show. You'll see cars that you won't see at "regular" cruises, not to mention the qualifying / racing, which is a real blast to watch. You can even walk down through the pit area and talk to the drivers and their crews. It is a great event and once you go you'll come back every year. All the profits from sponsors / registrations go to our charities, the Western PA Autism Society and the Allegheny Valley School ( for children and adults with autism ).

So please let me know if you have any questions about the show. I will answer your questions as quickly as I can.

The PVGP vintage racing at BeaveRun the weekend of 7/16 & 17 is also a ton of fun. Nothing like watching the larger-bore cars run balls-out at high speed, as well as talking to the drivers/crews in the pits. It is a great day and you will be glad you went.

So shine 'em up and bring 'em out folks!!

Wow - gorgeous TR4!! My buddy/neighbor Scott Permar was in charge of the registration for the British Car display for several years. He has a really nice red/maroon TR7. Thanks for supporting the PVGP!!!

I guess I'll go to Walnut Street. :)

I'll have my big-block 5-speed, uh, pick-up truck there to help run the show.

Some of the cars invited to Walnut Street this year include a Ford GT, a Ford GT40 Mark IV, a real Cobra, and a variety of Shelby Mustangs, as well as a few other Mustangs too like Ron's killer coupe. Cool non-Ford stuff might include 4 Lamborghinis, 2 Maseratis, a 1914 American LaFrance race car, several PVGP competition cars, and an incredible display of Porsches for the Marque of the Year display.

I'm also going to Tuesday's cruise & Wednesday's downtown show, as well as the cocktail party at Bosa Nova around happy hour on Wednesday.

Saturday & Sunday we'll have the supercharged Marauder and my faithful '85 GT Convertible in the park.

If you've been to the PVGP, you're probably already coming back. If you've never been, I think it's Pittsburgh's best automotive event... you'll see everything!

Going to Beaver Run to watch the racing!

Do you have to preregister for Thursday waterfront cruise?

Are they cool with a 79 Pace Car or is that too new?

Waterfront Cruise is Tuesday! No preregistration is needed.

Preregistration is available for the weekend events, but drive-up registration is fine too. Most events have a modest donation/entrance fee which all goes to Autism Society of Pittsburgh and Allegeny Valley School.

A '79 Pace Car would be very welcomed. While the PVGP does attract some really exclusive cars, a '79 4-door Fairmont with a 200 cid straight 6 helps the charities as much as a Porsche 930 Turbo. In fact, the variety offered by the Fairmont might even make the show more interesting versus one more Porsche.

Also, the "Vintage" refers to the racecars. Showcars of any year/make/model/description are welcome.

    Cheers,
    Greg

I am jealous of you that are working some of the events. I plan on volunteering when my kids get a little older. It must be a lot of fun to be part of this great event.

MaxPower - if you want to help with the American Car Show we'd love to have you. It is a lot of fun and the event is second to none. Let me know if you ever want to help out! In the meantime, bring your car down with the family and enjoy yourselves!

Just helping out a buddy, that's all. There is an autocross ride and drive, they need some driving instructors and cone chasers. I would much rather be driving something (probably do a little of that too).

23rd & 24th are both good... the entrance to the American Car Show is just off of Schenley Drive, you enter from Forbes Avenue next to the Schenley Park Golf Course Club House.

Like Greg said, we're there the whole weekend. But...the Saturday show - 7/23 - will be bigger. So if you can, come Saturday around 9:30am and spend the day. In addition to the car shows ( by far the best in the area - bar none ) they have qualifying races for all day on Saturday. We also have a big car show on Sunday. Your registration ( $25 - which goes to our charities ) is good for both days, so if you want to come back for Sunday to watch the racing, you can do that too!!

Don't forget to charge up your digital camera!

VaderGT... thanks for capturing those images. Whenever I tell people how incredible the PVGP car shows are I never seem to be able to adequately describe the quality & variety of cars there... but your shots do!

Btw, the PVGP has lots of Mustang fans as long-term volunteers, so you'll see plenty of ponies at the events.
