    Beaver Run flat out days

Anyone know what you do in group 1 Flat Out Days? I signed up to try it out before I put the big and littles on the new car.

It is a track day. They will have an instructor ride with you, and eventually may sign you off to drive solo. Will be on the North Track. Be prepared, track MURDERS brakes and left front tires. I have a feeling after you do it you will be selling off those big and littles, track days have converted many a drag racer (myself included).

How much does it cost? Do you need a roll bar in a convertible?

I haven't done a Flat Out Day since maybe '05, but I think it is like 200. I will check on the roll bar thing, I am pretty sure you need a bar in a droptop though.

Yeah Nate, they are required, details here, 1/2 page or so down...

Simple Autopower four point is all you need. Have one in my Cobalt (we have to have them in the car to hillclimb), pretty easy install.

I was just at a BeaveRun FOD in July. I have an 02 GT conv. I bought the Jegster 4pt roll bar. Its much cheaper than the Autopower, but you need fab skills and a welder. Anyway, your car will handle lousy with those skinnys on the front. Swap in some normal width tires for the track day. IMO, its the best time you'll ever have in your car. Worth every penny of the $180.

Only thing I can say about the roll bar thing is that if you ever want to do anything besides track days, make sure the person fabbing the bar reads the scca rulebook. Biggest issue with cars not passing tech at Level 3 and 4 events (Time Trial on roadcourse or hillclimbs) has been lack of a diagonal bar, which I cannot make out one in the avi above. The autopowers pop up for 200-300 all the time online. Bunch of guys buy them for track and then get a real cage later on, and unload them cheap.

I did not take pics during the install. I did pattern it after the Autopower as far as mounting the rear bars higher than the MM bar. I used 6in square plates for mounting unlike the smaller Autopower mounts. I do not have a diagonal. My requirements were to meet BeaveRuns rule. Eventually I may add diagonal and harness bar if I get into more serious racing.

Been wantin ta use'em but haven't had a chance too. But I have an Autopower rollbar in my Stang currently, the one which I bought off of somethingclever that was outta his Cobra! Here's a pic right after the install!
