    Comp Thumpr cam experiances?

Picking up a 94/95 gt or cobra soon and considering a mild build over the winter. Anyone have any experiance with the Comp Thumpr Cams? I know the 94/95 ecu's can be fickle at times so that may be an issue. But it would be something along the lines of gt40 heads, shorties, mild intake ie gt40,cobra,comp poly intake, cam,tb and exhaust work. Just wondering,

    Thanks guys, Vince

There's a few variants of the Thumpr series cam.

I know they dyno out just a hair under a good street cam.

I don't know how they affect the ECU, but I'm sure comp can tell you.

They have an excellent support staff, give em a call!

Those cams are engineered for sound. Buy something else.

Mark thats what im starting to notice....think ill go another route. While the sound is cool im not adding parts just for noise i want the added power as well.

They're basically a good street cam with late timed exhaust valve.

The lopey sound effect is caused by an exhaust pulse wave.

They retain good bottom/mid torque, where a long duration cam is more peaky.

The Thumpr will perform about the same as the Magnum 270HR but with a nasty lope at idle.

I was hoping someone would have done some dyno testing lol. With that longer exhaust duration i bet i would make a horrible nitrous cam..hmmmm

Actually, I was basing my comments on dyno testing by Big Joe Sherman

Ok cool ill research him and yeah if its just a noisy cam i might as well get a metal gear drive lol....which i would NEVER do. But im still researching it. One guy on corral.net said comp told him efi computers cant handle thumpr cams because the computer cant handle the big exhaust lobes..not sure how much truth is behind that but im looking into the specs/power output still. Im not going for a huge power maker, hell the most this engine will have for air flow will be ported gt40's.

I am running one of these cams in an old school 312 Ford Yblock I am building for my 1960 Ford 300. It is made for sound. Looks like the power of a good street Comp cam but sounds like a monster! If you are going for power or something particular, look for a different cam.

I wouldnt run this in anything that I have a goal of building more power with.

I think any cam you install (properly selected to make power) is going to satisfy you sound wise. Even the little N41 I had in my old notch sounded "lopey".

Actually just looked into that cam and its got a operating range of 2600-6200rpm...might be a lil much for stock gt40 heads and intake.

That's what I ran it with, it was an awesome combo. 12.50s at 109, road race suspension on street tires, untuned (no chip, obviously optimised timing and FP).

Check out the new Popular Hot Rodding mag, they had a 347 3-cam dyno session and the Thumper performed the best. Not exactly a same comparison but first Thumper dyno I've seen.

I told you Joe Sherman said the thumpr was an impressive street cam
that compared well to other street cams on his dyno.

Now you have another source to back it up.
