    Angry Ah yes track prep

I really really enjoy going on a race day and there be a complete lack of track prep for second straight weekend. Now maybe if I stick the biggest god damn tire under my car it will hook. I double classed and had tire pressure normal, high, low and same with launch rpm. On the 2 step off the 2 step. I had a pass today that was so bad my RT was .347 because when I left at 3rd yellow coming on the car just spun before it would even move to break beams.

Tires don't even have any tack to them after a pass. Where normally they are picking up everything in sight :biting:

I had my best 60ft of the year at PRP yesterday and ran my best time since early spring. What do I know I drive an auto lol.

The track prep was usually pretty good when I raced my Nova at PRP. I ran a 9" ET Street.

What did you run Mike? I didn't seem to see any of your runs yesterday, usually I see a couple anyway.

That line was strange yesterday in TT's and the early rounds ... I saw Bennish spin 100' feet in the left lane and cars in the right lane was going hard right if they spun at all ... other times it was hooking fine ... Seemed to there, then not for small tire cars ... The groove in the right lane was really narrow most of the day ... As soon as the sun went down things seemed to settle in.

I ran a 11.05 bumping in deep, probably would have been about an 11.00-01 if i was shallow, 60ft was 1.48 and if I was shallow would have been 1.46... I thought those times were pretty good for the weather.

I dont think PRP is considered "World Class Track Prep" either.

I understand your prolly a regular bracket racer and defend the track at all cost but I don't think its fair to "tell people to work on their cars" (just sayin)

So you don't know where or "if" "world class prep" is even available?

I am sure a few regulars here can attest, I am not an all out, no matter what supporter of PRP. I have however been elsewhere, and I will say if you can't hook at PRP (most of the time) then you don't have a chance at many other places I have been.

Oh, and what difference does it make if I am a weekly bracket racer? My car goes down the track just like yours or anyone else, I just race for something instead of a time slip.

^^agreed I have a stock rear suspension and short of sticky tires and air pressure I can't "work on my car"

I'm gonna give Mark brownie points. Had me thinking today. So I marked the tires. Found rims to be moving 1/2" per pass. Added 3 psi to slicks and took 300 out of launch. Only made it worse. Moved 1" per pass on last two. Both tires were doing the exact same thing and same amount of movement. So I won't be getting tires mounted at NTB anymore. Still it was consistant today except on last run where it blew tires off after I crushed tree(.003) and run was over.

Pretty sure I know when both beads gave up holding. 7/30 when it went 1.57 than 1.62 next pass. Now sixites have fallen to 1.65-1.68 with it blowing them off instantly and getting some crappy 1.7's.

So time to screw tire to rim.

Ed - if you want to try my 26-9 slicks that are screwed and have tubes before you drill yours, let me know. I know you had hook issues with a 9" tire before, but ... I feel you should also run tubes if you run screws.

Personally, I would break them down, clean everything, and glue them on before trying the screws.

I also have a rim screw template (somewhere) if you need it.

I was not trying to defend anyone at all with my comment about "working on your cars". I am a firm believer in adapting to my surroundings rather than relying on someone else. As a weekly bracket racer, I have no choice but to hook EVERYWHERE I go, if I am invested into a race with entries and travel, I can't just rely on the track to be perfect.

BTW, my car is stock suspension with stock GM leaf springs, stock GM coil springs in the front, Monroe shocks in the rear from Advance, and a set of 49.99 slapper bars...has been 1.46 in the 60' and can't tell you the last time I spun...ANYWHERE.

MIR is a great track, I would not however say it is in a different league than PRP, I have been to MIR when competitors were complaining about the track.
