    Tricky cops

I'm sure other townships have this, but my township (North Fayette) loves their new speed trap. It's two photo-eyes sitting real low on a stand shooting across the street. The cops can monitor the switches remotely in their car. Sneaky sneaky.

    Be careful in N. Fayette.

Citations issued with this system have been thrown out of court when it has been tried in other townships in the area. Evidently there is still some old, ancient law on the books in PA, that only allows PSP to use electronic devices to issue speeding citations.

Unless this has changed recently, I would fight any citation issued using this system.

I've seen that used in Moon Twp - maybe a year ago - but have not seen it since. I think it is complete BS. Instead of using these things just to generate revenue, the police should sit in plain sight. That way, instead of 15 people getting tickets one night, 1000 cars will actually SLOW DOWN when they SEE the police sitting there. After all, that is the true goal - to slow people down and make the roads safer.

They have been targeting North branch road the last few weeks.

I guess the thing I don't like is that it requires two officers to be there...one to monitor and one to chase. For a small community, to have two officers sitting in one area seems like a waste.

Yeah, Moon tried it, but all the citations they issued got thrown out of court....thus they quit using it.

Cops are nothing but revenue collectors.

Cops should not be allowed to hide. To me it is entrapment. They have radar and laser that can detect speed from like a mile away, what do they need to hide for. I know in Ohio, they used to have to be in plain view, and not hide. I'm not sure if it's still that way or not.

I got nailed in White Oak a couple years ago to a similar "two officer" setup. One timing, one sitting further up the road pulled me over. Wonder if it was the same thing? Got it reduced to 5 over no points (in court), so no big deal, cop was pretty cool.

Not to sound too hypocritical, but if you're speeding you are technically breaking the law. I don't mind seeing cops hiding or using means like this to catch people. We all know that we're taking a risk of getting caught when we speed. Do I think there are better ways for them to spend their time? Of course, but the speed limits are there for a reason.

That being said, I do regularly go 5-10 over and way over the limit for short periods of time on occasion. I know I'm taking a risk, and if I get caught then I can't really bitch about it too much. Saying they need to be out in plain sight is kind of like saying that they can't do undercover investigations or surveillance on "actual" criminals. Usually when they're out in plain sight they're around a bend in the road or something where you can't see them till you pass them anyways so that's sort of like hiding. I doubt there are too many people that are going to blatantly blow past a cop at 90 MPH.

    Cops

Well, it IS there job, and some are Cool and really nice, some are dicks, but just imagine for a minute you were in there shoes......all the crap they gotta deal with, all the excuses, all the crazies and people that would take there life without giving it a second thought,,,,, Imagine how many speeding stops actually gets rid of alotta that kinda stuff, people carrying drugs, or drinking,,,,,keeps things a little safer,,,, and who cares if they are not in plain sight, if they were, no one would ever get stopped, they would all be on there best behavior..... Im no stranger to traffic citations, but I was wrong, yea, i was like F$%@ i just got it again, but , i made the choice to speed, And then got caught.... Screw it, just obey the limit and you will be fine, Its there for a reason

They've been doing that here around the McKeesport/White Oak area for about 2 years. They went as far as using a 1990 Chevy Lumina Euro as a cop car to pull people over.

Cool! You bringing the Stang or the Goat?

I certaintly respect what they do, i could never be a policeman. I just think that sometimes some of them abuse and take advantage of there authority....Case in point: There was one local yokel several years ago that used to pull people over just for having there Fog lights on. I was one of those people.

Yea lately they've been touchy. They seem like the past couple days like they've been scouting that intersection; one sitting there and 3 driving around the area.
