Sidney Crosby to break media silence on concussion

In related news, sales of KY and kleenex in Cole Harbour have spiked in the last 24 hours.

With camp opening soon, hopefully this is just going to be an announcement of his plans to miss some of camp and some regular season games, if necessary, until he has been symptom-free for a particular length of time ( not sure how long that would be - that's going to be a call made by Sid himself along with his doctors and family ). Also, I expect him to answer a few questions about the difficulties / relapses he has encountered during the past 7 or so months. Of course, he'll be asked about retirement, but I don't think there is any chance of that happening now. If his symptoms remain for the foreseeable future and he simply doesn't heal / improve enough, maybe he will have to hang it up at some point - but I don't see that decision being made yet.

He just needs to continue to make his long-term health a priority and not care about what people think, especially those who are questioning his toughness and heart. Those people obviously have no clue.

I understand that concussions are very serious and I am also not a doctor in any way, but I honestly think they are reallllllly babying him with this injury. Its been 9 months. They said that Sidney's "100% is different than another athletes 100%" bullshit. 100% is 100% period.

They are acting as if he has permanent brain damage. If this happened to some no-name player, he would've been back on the ice toward the end of last season

I disagree. He needs to be 100% healthy and without symptoms. There is no reason for him to come back before then. The NHL is such a joke - hits to the head are "illegal" but they don't enforce the damn rule.

He does...as far as I know, anyone who's had a concussion has permanent damage to some extent. Personally, I had a bad concussion when I was 19 (11 years ago) and my coordination has never been the same since.

Do you following MMA at all? Look at the fighters who've been KO'd once and never been the same.

I don't think he's being babied, I think they're doing their best to try to get him back to what he was before. Honestly, I don't think it's going to happen. Pretty sad. :(

^No he'll return and he'll still be the best. They are just being real careful with him because he is a 'superstar'. (which makes sense) I just hope we dont have to wait till 2/3 through the season to see him again. Sid said himself that it is 'very likely' that he will play this season

I can't pass judgement on anyone because I am not them. Let him take the time he needs. When he's back, he's back. Until then, they Pens need to focus on utilizing the existing world-class talent they have on the ice.

pretty much they just said that an injury like the one he has takes a long long time to recover from. He is doing much better and things are looking good as far as his recovery goes. they cannot give a timeline but said it is very likely he will play this season

Money is motivating the whole thing, and the thinking is to lose a little bit in the short term than risk the years and years of income he can bring to the franchise. Anyone who thinks that Sydney, the Pens, and the NHL is acting with this health being absolute #1 priority is living in a dreamworld.
