I was hoping that a big-brother version of the Coyote would end up in there...

I wonder if they are boring the cylinders or stroking it to get it to 5.8? Part of the reason the Coyote is outperforming the Condor ( 5.4 ) with the same amount of boost is due to the higher rpms allowed due to the shorter stroke ( as well as the TiVCt ). If they're stroking the 5.4 to get 5.8, the 5.8 will be limited rpm-wise even more compared to the Coyote.

Either way I guess an increase in power is an improvement, right?

I could be wrong but I thought this 5.8 had more in common with the 6.2 because both motors are being built in the same plant.

the rumor for a long time was that they are going to bore out the 5.4 to increase the displacement.

I agree though, they need to put a variant of the coyote in the GT500....that 5.4 is such old technology. The engine has been around since 1997. I dont know why they are still sticking with it. They need the new engine for all its improvements - piston cooling jets, TiVCT, etc etc.

Just imagine a twin turbo 5.0 that you can take to 7k+ rpm

Are people seriously complaining that a TVS2300 blown 5.8L making 600 factory horsepower isn't enough? LOL

This is insane. Stuff just keeps getting faster and faster. Ten years ago a 12-second street car was really fast, now they're average at best as the factories are unleashing monsters like this thing.

Hell if the car looks good and it comes out to be light enough it just might be able to sway me back to a Ford. I like what I see so far.

A blown 5.0 would have done far more with far less in my opinion, but always good to see any auto company stepping it up.

After seeing the power the 5.4 in the FGT could make (and stay in one piece) I'd stick with it.

They never really said it was going to be based off the current 5.4. Since they noted same plant as the 6.2 I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being a big bore 2V motor like the 6.2. That would be really awesome because then you'd most likely have a 4" bore with the ability to have much more displacement with a stroker kit. That's what I'm hoping for at least. Not that I would be able to afford one either way, lol.

All signs point to it being a 4V.

Lot of people assume this will be a bored/stroked 5.4...they havent said that.....only that it will be 5.8L. Its not very hard to make the current 5.0 into a 5.8...just sayin...

It's good to see some added displacement, that's about 351 CI.

the 5.4 in the GT was a special block if i recall, or have they moved that technology into the aluminum block 5.4 GT500's now?

I think everyone would love to have a ford GT i sure as hell would.
