Gauge problem in 03 GT

Have a problem in my gf's 03 gt. The gauges cycle during start...you know liek when you disconnect the battery and hook it back up.. Well if you turn the key to the on position the gauges dont cycle..you can even let it sit there and everything seems to work fine. But, right from that on position actually turn it to crank and the gauges cycle...everything starts fine and works properly but I know they shouldnt do that.

Anyone encounter this before? We may be trading the car in on a 07 up GT in a few weeks anyway...but if we keep it i want to figure it out.
