    Tell me about speakers

What kind are good, which to stay away from? I never really been into the car stereo stuff. Not looking to spend alot of money cause they are going in my race car, but need to be some what decent. Just looking to replace the stock blown out ones in the door and hatch and back seat. Anyone point me in the right direction?

In the Z06 I am using the stock nav head unit which puts out a very clean low level signal with my soldered in converter as I tapped in on the low output speaker wires before the Bose factory amp. I am using a 5 channel Kenwood amp, Image Dynamics sub, and JL Audio separates front and back. I have also used Polk audio and Focal speakers with excellent results.

I have acoustical hush mat sound proof sheets in the doors and in the rear hatch area and behind the seats. That does make all the difference if you really want good sound.

Lol, I'm not into high end stuff, so I usually just go to Crutchfield.com, and get Pioneer from the same series. Always seems to me if you stick to one manufacturer, and one series, you end up sounding good enough to make me happy.

    But I don't have a racecar

Just throwing this out there...I have these for sale...$150 is my absolute bottom line on them. About the only thing I'd want in trade would be some really nice 255/40/17 fronts and / or 275/40/17 rears. The speakers were really pricey...and from what I've been told, speakers these days aren't made as well as these...

Boston Acoustics Pro 5.4 component speakers with crossovers. They are 5 1/4 inches in diameter. I bought these to replace the awful door speakers that were in the '88 GT convertible I used to have. These speakers are incredible. They were over $400 when new, and were only in the car for a few months before I sold it. Right after I installed them, I changed jobs and my new job didn't come with a company car, so the GT convertible got replaced with a '95 SHO that was faster and WAY better in the snow. I bet they were in the car for less than 2 months. They're still in the original box.

    Scott,

Are you going to use a stock head unit or aftermarket?

Exactly why I went with Infinity Kappa's. If I have only one gripe about my audio, it would be that I'm now running out of amp from the factory amplifier. But I don't care enough to go wire splicing and cutting and mounting amps under the rear decklid.

If you can, swap the head unit too... Speakers are only as good as the source sending the music. Stock speakers can sound good with the right head unit.
