I still can't get over how well the auto's run.
Once they developed an auto that has light weight internals without sacraficing strength or maybe rollerized so that they are just as efficient as an manual. Whatever they did, an auto will out perform a manual all day long. It only took them a centry to figure it out. They are just less fun to drive.
i agree the closer ratios help keep the engine in its power band

Pretty good deal.
The autos are doing great. Stock stall helps it hook hard on stock tires, and close ratios get it moving off the line quicker.
Back when my firebird had stock stall, on DRs it would dead hook on the street or FLDs. Made it pretty simple to win races.
