Storing my stang for the winter. Some questions...

So there's a chance I'll be able to store my car in my girlfriend's grandfather's barn for the winter, which would save me the approx $145/month I would spend if I got a storage unit near me (thats the best price I could find out of about 5 different places).

Only thing is, they say there are possibly mice in there. I don't want mice nesting in my stang, chewing up the wires and shitting everywhere, so how can I protect my car if I were to put it in this barn? I could put traps around my car but that might not stop them unless I cover every square inch around my car, which doesnt seem reasonable.

    Any thoughts?

$145 per month? Wow. That's a lot of jingle.

I have put a few open bars of Irish Spring soap on the floor of my car to keep critters out when the car is in storage. From what I have been told, they hate the smell and taste of it. So far I have not had any problems with varmints.

A buddy of mine lives in State College and just built a new attached garage. I'll see if he has a space that he could rent and let you know.

I put a few decon blocks in my storage. May have to add some Irish spring in the car too. Couldn't hurt. I put baking soda In the freezer boxes in the cabin and trunk to help with moisture and mildew too.

I would really appreciate that thank you! I've been looking for a place to put it since August and can't find anywhere that isn't a huge ripoff. Those prices are for a 10x20 unit too that will barely fit my car

Take plasic lunch bag and put a brillo pad in it. Tie a bright color string to it and put in your tail pipes to keep mice out.

I also install a screw type battery disconnect to the battery. My storage has no power for my trickle charger. Never had problems with mice nests in the exhaust but I did find mice poop in my cup holder when I let the windows cracked lol

Moth balls, Irish Spring soap, and bounce fabric softner sheets all instide the car. The mothballs have a smell, but it clears out after a few days in the fresh air. I actually get what they call moth cakes, they are bigger and come in a plastic holder.

I talked to my buddy and he is still in the process of finishing the inside of the garage. He is a single parent with 2 kids under 10, so he is pretty busy. Not sure when he'll have it done, but when he finishes he'll let me know and I'll get back to you.

Make sure to plug tailpipes, fired up the car after leaving it sit during winter and deer corn shot out the tailpipes.

    Lol what!!

Moth balls work pretty well. Put them under your hood, rear end, bumpers, under intake manifold. Any little spot. We use moth balls on our training cars.

I've read on other forums that dryer sheets work well. Place them throughout the cabin, in the trunk, and under the hood.

I'd probably rather just have it in the barn rather than have it that far away. Thanks though!
