Car storage costs....what are you paying?

I am just wondering what folks are paying for car storage. Do you do it monthly or a set number of months? Pay ahead or as you go? Are your spots reserved for the coming year?

So far just my rides are stored in the garage but I'd kick around putting an addition off the other side of my building for rented storage if the rates would make it worthwhile. Not looking to make a mint, just help defray the building costs.

The rentable space would be just like my portion that is used for car storage.....20' wide x 48' long, concrete floor, floor drains, walls and roof insulated (not heated but never got below 40 degrees last winter), and accessable via two garage doors...one in the front and a side door in the rear. It can fit five cars easily. Two cars (or three depending on what front door I use) can be moved in or out without disturbing the others.

Here's a pic of my storage/semi working side of the garage. The '68 Stang and GTO are filthy b/c they were stored in a body shop before moving them in here. There's also some miscellaneous stuff from another move that's stored along the right wide wall. If I built a dedicated storage space for other peoples cars, it would be solely for storage and very clean.

I don't have my car in storage but just had another thread about car storage the other day. Looking around, the lowest rate I could find was $145/month and that was for a 10'x20' storage unit. If you made storage space and charged something like $50 a month and you knew people that need storage, I bet you could easily fill your garage every winter.

    $50 x 5 cars = $250 per month for you

I think that $50-$60 per month is average for dry storage. I know White was quoted $145 per month, but that price is insane to me. A fairgrounds east of town ( not sure of the name ) has indoor storage that is really cheap - but they really cram them in there from what I've heard, and you can't get your car out until a certain date ( no in & out priviledges ). I know others have paid $100 per month in this area, but that is on the high side. Several other buddies have rented indoor spaces in the $50-$60 range.

I am not paying anything because my mom has a garage that she never uses. But there are a couple places around me that have spaces for usually 50-60/month. There are so many people that have garages and don't use them, I'm sure I could ask one of my neighbors if I really needed a spot, and just cut them $25-30/month.

If it looks good, you'll see it. If it sounds good, you'll hear it. If it's marketed right, you'll buy it. But if it's real, you'll feel it. IG: @donuttrump

I saw that thread....that's what got me thinking. It would cost about $12K to put an addition on the garage....plus an increase in property taxes....YAY!!

I pay around 60 a month and I pay it quarterly. Its in a storage facility a mile from my house with my own roll up door with my own lock. I keep it in there year round until I can build a garage. I like being able to get in when I want to. My dad stores his in a heated building and I think the guy charges 30 a month but once his is in there, it not accessible until spring which is not for me.

    $0 :D

Keep mine at home. Don't trust anyone else to store my car and treat it with the same care I give it.

Nah it's still $0. If you were using a garage that would be even more than your paying now. See? Don't ya feel better now?

I have to tell you, having my car in the garage sure beats when I used to store it outside in the winter. Here it is two years ago when when had all of that snow.

LOL, I remember mine looked like that except I was still driving it everyday.

I pay $90.10 a month for my 10x20 storage unit for last 10 years. Where I keep my '84 vert and parts. I'd like to find a place to put my '04 for the winter but has to be close so I can yank it out to do work.

mental note: to buy a house with a garage next year

I normally keep both my GN, and Stang in my garage at home in the summer months. In the winter one of the cars(Mustang this year)goes to storage and i pay $50.00 a month.
