    Grease Monkey in CBG

When down tonight to get my oil changed before winter, I usually do it my self but its a pain now thats its lowered and I don't have the time.

Guys down there knew what they were doing, the owner Jim is a vintage car nut. He said he had his MG down at the VGP this year, and is having his Mustang restored. The waiting area has VGP posters and vintage car posters everywhere.

Anytime I need topped off on fluids or oil its free, they vacuumed it out and did the windows as well. And I had no problem with the Stang being lowered getting in or out.

Just thought I would give them a shout out for a great job, but even better customer service. I ended up talking to the guy for almost half an hour. My dad had stopped in back in June and he remembered his name and the cars he raced in the 60s. He said " Your dad raced a Lotus 18 right?" Found it amazing he remembered that.

    Greats guys down there.

It is great to hear people getting awesome service anywhere these days. Good service is definitely less the norm than it used to be. I can definitely vouch for the great majority of guys and ladies involved with the PVGP, having met and volunteered/worked with so many of them over the last 2 decades or so. GPFarrell here on SCS is one of those folks - he got me involved in the PVGP and we look forward to it every single year, even though a lot of our time is spent working our fannies off so others can enjoy themselves as we raise lots of money for our charities. These people are true enthusiasts and generally super folks. I wish that more people would consider volunteering for these types of events - many folks just attend show after show and cruise after cruise - and there is nothing wrong with that. But volunteering for any good cause while at the same time enjoying yourself and promoting our hobby is a combination that is very rewarding and truly hard to beat. Ok - stepping off my soap box now...

This Jim - do you know his last name? Sounds like he might run with the British Car crowd as well as the Mustang gang. What year Mustang does he have? I know just about all of the Mustang owners that frequent the PVGP - there's another bunch of good eggs!!

Jim Holtschlag is his name, and his is the owner.

I agree its so hard to go anywhere and get GOOD sevice for your money. I spent alittle more than what I would have like but the service more than covered for it.

Me and my dad used to go down to the PVGP alot when I was youger. Threw racing he knows alot of people so I got to sit in alot of the cars and get free food! haha Id like to get back into with him, start going every year again.

We want to start saving to pick something up to take to show and fix up. He had a Red 63 or 64 Covair Monza back in the day, custom order because he knew Don Yenko. I wouldnt mind finding one and fixing up, not going to easy or cheap!

Barry - you would have been in heaven back at the 2010 PVGP - the spotlight car ( a secondary feature car - behind the Marque of the Year ) was anything built by Yenko. It was awesome - Yenko Camaros - Chevelles - Novas - and even the Yenko Corvairs. Probably the largest Yenko gathering short of a Yenko convention. Very cool. Bring your GT down this year - if you're a car guy we want you and your car at the show!

Ah man, my dad would of loved it! I would love to bring my car down, would love even more to pull in with something alittle more "vintage". Haha

I want to scan some of my dads old racing pictures and post them up. I think you and some others would really get a kick out of em. I've got pictures of the Lotus 18, Brabham, Can AM team, rally Mini Coopers and cars he has restored. That's why I would really like to get something for him. He had to sell things when me and my sister where born. I think a Corvair would be just right for him [and me haha]. Or even a little MG.

I want to get into racing like he did but man things have changed. I guess SCCA is completly differnt from when he was a member. And open wheel racing, forget about it.

What's changed so much? It is pretty easy to get out there and compete. Wheel to wheel is a bit more of a pain, but we have countless autocrosses, time trials on road courses, and if you have a bit more of a death wish, arguably the best hillclimb series in North America mere hours away that takes a pretty small investment to get involved in.

Not sure, what has changed. Hill climb would be a great way to get into the sport. I've watched your vidoes looks like a blast. I wish rally and F1 were as big in the US as it is in Europe. Those rally guys are INSANE.

Mark, to get in to hill climb with my gt other than a helmet would I need a full cage and 5 point? How does that work? Does it go by engine size or hp? Thanks.

I'm going to look and possibley buy a truck tomarrow, not sure if a ranger could be a tow rig. Haha
