    Where to take scrap?

I have a few things id like to scrap and i dont know of any places around me to take them. Or if its worth taking. I have two 4.6 shortblocks, some rotors, and various metal scraps. should i dis-assemble the shortblocks before taking them or just give it as a whole? I live in scott twp, by heidelberg if that helps for location.

    Thanks,
    Shawn.

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. I couldn't figure out at first which neighbors would be interested in worn crankshafts and rods, but then I saw a pickup truck driving around collecting scrap metal on garbage night.

I used to haul engine blocks, etc to Tube City in West Mifflin, but it was hardly worth my time and gas money back then.

I put some aluminum runningboards, 4 rotors, and 2 axles out at the curb the night before garbage night...came home from work and it was all gone!! I was thrilled, as Waste Management doesn't take heavy metal since it can damage the hydraulics in the compactors. The local scrapyard isn't open at times when I can get there, so that was the best option for me.

When you set stuff out by the curb it is gone by morning because there is real money in scrap. 4 aluminum wheels= a 100 dollar bill. I used to take cars that I had titles for to Casturo's in McKeesport when I was in the business, no titles got taken to West Virginia.

Just heard about them through a friend. Thanks.

And I'm not about to throw away 350 pounds of scrap metal. It may not be worth much but all Americans new location is less than 2 miles from my house. Thanks for the answers!

Also, if I were to put out scrap metal for people to take on garbage night my neighbors would complain about us making the neighborhood look "trashy" no pun intended.

So ill be on my way down there tomorrow, thanks guys!

I hear ya - that's why I just put it out one day early - so the pickers have a chance to see it in the daylight. I figure they can make a few bucks on the scrap, and I don't have to find a way to get it to the scrapyard myself - they're usually closed when I'm home during the week, and weekends are just too darn busy most of the time.

.....+1.....same here! I very rarely have scrap metal laying around, but the few times I did, that was the easiest way for me to get it out of my garage
