NMRA Coyote Stock

Has anyone looked at this class much? Any thoughts?

Highlights:

• Sealed FRPP crate 5.0 in any chassis
• FRPP ECM, subject ot tune verrification and processor swap
• Any chassis at 3200#'s
• Basically limited to 28-10.50 tires
• C10 fuel
• Tranny options are interesting, real clutch type pro-shifted sticks or trans brake C4's
• Class requires a ful lexhaust through mufflers.
• Chassis rules are basically "stock style" suspension.

By far not a low buck class with the buy in for the crate engine.

$6,000 ish for the crate 5.0, not sure of there is a premium for the sealed version.
$1,500 ish for the required install kit.

Add in a prepped transmission (likely expensive ot develop a clutch tranny package), a proper chassis etc and it gets up there.

I wonder what the top qualifiers are going to be running? I would like to see the class take off and stay around. Seem like once you eat the buy in, it could be a cost effective class to run. If it sticks to the intent, these could all be drivers races ...

well, we've watched bolt on NA coyotes run 10's with a little weight reduction (3600lb raceweights), should be really interesting.

If you play around with some assumptions (yeah, I know ;) ) ...

412 HP @ 6500 rpm (rated power of crate engine), in a 3200 # chassis, assuming a 28" tire ...

A pretty good pass works out as 11.00 at 116 with something like a 4.56 gear.

I'm not so sure the specified C10 will help anything but durability. The open question will be what the tune is optimized for ... The C10 could slow it down.

It's looking like this could be a 10.90 type class ??

It looks like the class was set up so you could take an existing Real Street or Pure Street car, drop the engine package in and be racing ...

In the end, I think this shakes out as a mid 10 class.

The question in my mind was how much cage was going to be needed. I think if it's built to the 10 flat and up rules it would be good.

Does anyone know of good deals on old Real Street cars?

Now did they say anything about the road runner (Boss 302) platform being allowed in this?

Edit: Seems like they go out of their way to reference 5.0L C, a lot. So I am assuming, most likely no.

Absolutely nothing but the special sealed part number engine and PCM are allowed. You can't even buy a wreck or a new car, it needs to be the sealed part number with no modifications. The rules even say it is subject to tune verification, even PCM swaps.

with the power bump in 2013 in the Coyote going to a rated 420bhp, up from 412, I have a feeling the FRPP tune is standard now.

According to ford the 420 is based on preliminary testing. And the torque is still rated at 390.

Theres still a lot of speculation on where the power increase is coming from. General consensus is tuning.

As I read it, it is limited to the FRPP tune, even as far as random checks, and swapping PCM's

Then turn it into a pro coyote tuners class? I think Super Stang is going that way now.

From an opinion I mostly trust ... “The Coyote engine is about half the cost of a competitive Factory Stock engine and about one third the price of a Pure Street engine. It also requires far less maintenance.”

Look at what happened to both those classes with car counts ... Three freaking cars at times?? And it sure wasn't the chassis cost that killed those teams ...

You are still going to have to develop a header / exhaust combo, and a clutch / transmission / gear package, but this reads like a good chassis tuner, and a hell of driver can get it done here. The engine development & tuner are "in the box".

I want to see a drivers class again ... Hammer the tree, kill the shift points, and you stand a chance of going rounds.

I have seen 10 sec bolt-on, full weight 5.0s. So imagine 600lbs lighter, and full suspension with sticky tires and rev limit shifts from guys who do it for a living and I really think there will be 9 sec cars.

depends on the calibration. The coyote gains a lot, not just in HP wise from a tune. Throttle response is key. In stock configuration, throttle response is lazy.

Also some of the reasons why you're seeing the coyote run the times they do is their factory gearing.
