    AR 15's

Those of you who have AR's, what kind(s) do you have. Im looking to buy one and am curious as to what brands people like/dislike. This will be my first AR and after doing some research I came to the conclusion that forward assist and a dust cover are not necessary for target shooting. So with that said, I've been really leaning towards the Smith and Wesson M&P 15 Sport. The only major differences between that gun n the upper end models is no forward assist, no dust cover and a melonite coated barrel instead of a chrome lined barrel. A guy I spoke to at a gun store told me that you might get 12,000 rounds through the melonite barrel before it starts to loose accuracy compared to a chrome lined barrel you might get like 15,000 rounds out of it. So for one I dont think I'll ever get 12,000 rounds through the gun in my lifetime to begin with and two the M&P 15 sport is $680 compared to the usual $1,200..What do you guys think?

I looked at a few DPMS's but was weary about buying one just because I never really hear much about them and wasnt sure about the quality of them..

All of my AR's, past and present, are Colt's. There are many good manufacturers of AR's out there but if you don't know much about them and just want to make sure you buy a quality AR the first time, you cant go wrong with Colt.

Here is a link to a great first AR...

My patrol rifle is a Colt 6940.

Fantastic rifle and worth every penny.

Set up for optics and everything right from the factory.

On the 6940, is the carry handle removable?

Alright, I just assumed it did because it seems like every Colt I see has a carry handle on it..Any idea on what the 6940 goes for at a local gun store?

    Ar 15

    You may want to consider
    www.stagarms.com http://youtu.be/Vhw0mRsRsU0

They make all the parts for most AR manufactures. I bought one last spring and could not be happier.
Got mine through Cooper gun sales in Harmony,Pa. Very nice people to deal with. Also very reasonable $800.00 on sale at the time

I picked up a Bushmaster AR-15 Carbon about a month ago from Gander Mountain. It came with a red dot scope for $700. I havent had a chance to take it to the range yet but Ive heard really good things about them.
