    Ford utility truck

Does anyone know if a Ford utility truck (ex. gas, water, elect) has the same wheelbase as a regular dually? Are they just converted from a bed to a utility body?

    Thanks yall'

We have a few F350 and F450's at work and the one F350 has about a foot more wheelbase than the others. It was an old U-Haul if that helps.

I can only speak from when I built my dump truck. I had to buy a "cab and chasis F350" and not just replace the pick-up bed with a dump bed. The frame lengths are different I believe and I'm not certain about gas tank locations. I could have bought a pick-up truck and had a bed custom built to fit the frame, but most utlity / dump / flatbeds that you see on the road I believe start life as cab and chasis vehicles and not pick-up trucks that have had the beds removed and replaced.

My thoughts were to put a dually bed on it, and use it to occasionally tow my cars around and trips to the lumber yard. Think it would be that bad? Maybe install 4.10s? Figured with low miles, I could keep it a long time.

Should have 4.10's... I have driven the F350 with a 460 and an auto tranny and hate every second of it, I have a F450 with a 460 and a 5 speed and it runs way better (4000lbs heavier) and gets better gas milage. If your only going to use it once in a while might not be too big of an issue, I'd look around for a 5 speed and or a 460.
