    Block decked ... now what?

Just had the block decked to attempt to bring the pistons to zero deck.

My measurements (+ out of the hole, - in the hole):

    1:+.001
    2:+.0015
    3:+.0035
    4:+.0045
    5:-.007
    6:-.0065
    7:-.0045
    8:-.0045

So not only is there .011 difference between banks there is a variation between cylinders on that bank by .0025-.0035

If I ran an .038 headgasket the quench would range from .0335 to .045 (somewhat outside the .035 to .040 I was hoping for)

So now what? What headgasket should I use, should I have it decked again hoping they get it closer? I am about at my wits end on this build and its only beginning.

The guy who decked it said to just put it together and don't worry about it. The other machine shop in town wants 95 bucks just to deck the one side.

    HELP!!

    Thanks
    Jason

Well, who ever decked your block did not square it with the crankshaft line bore.. I wouldnt want my engine like that.. I'd talk to the machine shop (or find one that can and will do it RIGHT) and have it re-decked to be level and square with the crank shaft

I am already 275 deep in machine work in this block ... when will it end? Its 160 to square and deck. And I don't know how much they can take off to get it square ... I am already .0425-.046 for the quench on the one side with the .047 gasket. I only have .004 max to play with on the one end. Then I have to start looking for thicker headgaskets.

Well, a good shop should be able to square the entire deck surface level with the lowest corner now (so you will not be taking any more off of the lowest existing point if you get my drift)
