How I learned this ... had a 95 Dakota club cab, when I got the insurance quote it was a good bit higher than I expected, when I asked why so high, they told me that came back as a 6 passenger vehicle (it did have seat belts for 6) ... my '02 Ram it went way down, new vehicle. 1.5X the cost, 3 passengers. dual airbags ... If you ever got 6 people in a Dakota, it would be like being held in place with airbags :D
I would say thats correct......the driver is much more expensive to fix than the car.

I drop first of Nov and pick back up first of April.. I have full coverage when its on and I was shocked at how cheap it was. I dont have any milage limitations. I considered it cause its even cheaper if you limit the amount of miles you will put on the car.

Got quotes through Erie and Heacock (for my hypothetical cobra) and Erie turned out to be cheaper and had no mileage limitations with more drive time. Neither of them were more than $500/year though so thats a great deal!

Insurance up here is MUCH cheaper than back in Texas... it was nearly prohibitive to own a sports car in houston because of how much they would charge for them. Even when i turned 25, my insurance barely dropped and I had a perfect record. Not sure exactly what i was paying but i think somewhere around 120/month was more in line.. then when you add a new focus, my dd, and renters insurance.. that insurance bill was outrageous.

Knowing the cost of insurance here... well that almost makes it unamerican to not have a sportscar.
Looking for another 03/04. PM me if you have one for sale!

You've peeked my interest .... with your Erie quote can you drive the car all year long or are calculation storage months in the quote? Is the insurance full tort or limited tort? What about deductibles?

I might have to show my insurance again!!

My wife's 1990 fox'vert GT is a driver...nothing really nice at all about it. Typical aged car that needs some touch ups so I only carry collision on it. I pay $140/yr on a seasonal policy. My 1988 Thunderbird is about the same cost on the same policy.

I didnt get the details on the Erie quote, i just asked for identical coverage as I have on my other two vehicles and obtained the price. Full coverage with a $500 deductible. It was unlimited mileage, the seasonal quote was priced per year and includes terms that the vehicle will be stored for 3 months out of the year in an enclosed garage and will not move during that time. I was just ballparking it since I dont have a particular vehicle on my radar yet and didnt want to cause anyone too much work.

I just did an Erie on-line quote with the same coverages as my Heacock policy but with $500 deductibles, they wouldn't let me change to $0 like I have with Heacock?? The quote came back at $1,107 ...... that's $622 higher than my Heacock policy .... better verify the details before signing up with Erie.

My experience tells me it's almost inpossible for main stream insurance companies to compete with Heacock and Hagerty .....

I pay 1100 for 3 cars with Erie...All full coverage. My wife is on the policy too. I also have my home through them. My only worry with switching is I know Erie treats me awesome when I have to use the service. Have you ever had to file a claim with the collector insurance?

I did in 2010 and the transaction was smooth as glass.

Red flags did go up when Erie came back so cheap and i questioned it a few times and the lady seemed surprised as well but said she ran the quote a couple times and I had her run it assuming a 2004 vert for higher insurance premiums... came out to what i had mentioned here. Of course I would check again if I find a car and if Erie sucks then onto Heacock... no sweat.

Kinda OT, but my girlfriend just bought a new Subaru Impreza Sport hatchback and she was looking into different insurance policies and all I can say is WOW... Now granted, she owns no other cars, bikes, house, etc... but insurance for this new liil 4-banger is crazy!. She has looked at all the major carriers (Geicko, All-State, Progressive, Etc...) and the cheapest rate she could get for what I would consider about a middle of the road package was $117 a month... The first two quotes from All-State and Liberty Mutual were both over $200 a month! Maybe I am out of touch on this area especially since I get multiple vehicle and homeowner discounts, but these prices just seem a little ridiculous to me especially with her age (27) and having a clean driving record... Yes, I know... surprising for a female driver! Haha JK!
